Hi

I hope you enjoyed the Fun Day yesterday and, like me, looking forward to the new season.

For those supporters who follow me on twitter @BriSeymourSmith you will be aware that I was contacted by several supporters who were concerned regarding one or two disagreements with stewards over the use of cameras (including mobile phones) during the Derby friendly on Friday evening. I promised I would come back with clarification for you on this issue. Please see the regulation below:

Mobile telephones and other mobile devices are permitted within the ground PROVIDED THAT (1) they are used for personal or private use only (which, for the avoidance of doubt and by way of example only, shall not include the capturing, logging, recording, transmitting, playing, issuing, showing, or any other communication of any Material for any commercial purposes); and (2) no Material that is captured by a mobile telephone or other mobile device may be published or otherwise made available to any third parties including, without limitation, via social networking sites

The club has promised to ensure that our stewards are also clear on this ruling so that everyone is clear on what can and what can’t be done as far as filming is concerned.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes

Brian

This blew up about a year or so ago. At the time it was categorically stated that
photographs could not be taken at matches.
BSS's answer above seems more relaxed. I take it that pictures may now be taken
for personal use. The problem will come if they are then posted on a forum or social
networking site.

thank you brian as always for including us with news from brfc <ok>

some interesting comments on the OS about this http://www.brfcforum.co.uk/index.php?/topic/110639-use-of-cameras-at-the-mem/

this was put to brian seymour-smith on twitter apparently (i say apparently as i not seen it on twitter myself, this is taken from a comment on the link i included above)......

@BriSeymourSmith thx Bri. Will the club enforce a sensible pragmatic approach? Confiscating phones for a couple of crowd shots?

and this was the reply (apparently).....

@RG2Gas im sure that will be the case!

what the hell?? try taking my phone from me guys!

like to see you try! another comment that made me laugh was....

"We ought to all get our phones out and film the first couple of minutes of the first home game and see what happens."

followed by....

"Whilst singing, We film what we want. We film what we waaaant. We're Bristol Rovers...we film what we want!" <laugh>

all this seems weird to me. pics of our players in game time being spread about is advertising our club around the world via use of social media! crazy. seems like a massive own goal if this is a club rule. if its a football league rule then its still crazy madness!

i can see big problems arising from this where fans will push the limits! should be interesting!

Must admit the whole photo/video camera thing has left me bemused. It's not like we're going to sell knock off DVDs of Rovers v Accrington Stanley.

Maybe the club are getting things in order for when we are in the Champions League and the video rights will be financially rewarding. :)

I assume this is more to do with the video's people post more than the actual photos? "Highlights" of the game from our fans may cause the club problems from the football league/sky/any other broadcaster maybe? I can’t imagine a photo of some players being too much of a problem
