I agree. According to these reports we would be losing the following from the first team squad:- Mingolet Elmohamady Bramble (end of contract) Killgallon (end of contract) Graham Cattermole Bardsley Colback N'Diaye Gardner Whickham Vaughan Ji That's fourteen leaving according to my reckoning and we have recruited nine. Even if Elmohamedy, Killgallon and Bramble were excluded, as they were leaving anyway, that still means we are minus two to an existing paper thin squad! Something not adding up here. It couldn't be the journalists could it? I will be sorry to see N'Diaye go as well.
But the way everyone has been clammering for new signings and all to eager to get rid of the old, even though many are scared to accept the likes of an averge sess may leave, you will still sell your soul for a new player....hence why when that daft mag **** said 'no one is good enuff for their team' maybe he had a point judging by peoples views.
Hope we keep Sess, Johnson, Fletcher, Alfie & Gardner, the rest?? The rest can all go as long as quality replacements are bought in.
With all these players coming in and remember they are all not first team choice.we must not leave the squad short I think we will keep a few more than people are saying.
Yep, and people are overlooking that Ba, Karlsson, Whatmore have been signed with an eye to the development squad, not instant first team squad. We'd be foolish to let versatile people like Gardner go IMO.
theres a few in the squad i would be happy to get rid off, i wouldnt mind vaughen, bardo, ji or seb going. beyond that we would be stretching ourselves too thin and would need another batch of signings to replace those who go. we had a paper thin squad last season and we need to avoid a similer situation this year
I canât believe PDC will sanction the departure of Sess and keep a plum like McClean? That is hardly the actions of a progressive and ambitious manager imo. Its dross like McClean that needs moving on now (immediately) and players like Sess can be replaced in the course of time but maybe not in the first wave unless someone comes along with a £10m+ bid? If we sell Sess and keep JM then we are not going to improve as a club in any shape or form?
Never quite sure whether Sess is "settled" in the NE or not. Reports vary, which is annoying, because if he wants to go, he'll end up going one way or the other. Maclean can go now, though.
See, I think he looks pretty happy on all of the pics that come out from within the camp. Seems he & Ba have struck up an instant friendship, both French speakers, can't be a bad thing. A happy Sess is a weapon, simple.
The only way we can have a good squad is to pay those fring players a decent wage.i know it will be difficult for players who don't make the first team to accept that but there time will come with injuries and dip in form that is why we need a strong squad
^ This. Hope summit goes tits up and he stays. Have clubs come in for him or was his name circulated by the club alerting them?
We have a small squad to begin with without selling the majority of players. I think it's just lazy journalism due to the amount of players we have been linked with. It would be silly and would go against the clubs new policy to let good up and coming players with future sell on value like N'Diaye go as opposed to selling players like Vaughan who have 1 year left on their contracts and are 30 year old.
unles big money comes in from there sales they must be kept or the squad will be to light even after the new buys.
I saw a quote on a thread yesterday saying that a "one legged dwarf" would be better than McClean - personally I'd be happy with that swap deal!! Do whoever have the dwarf want any money as part of the exchange??
@GFN_France Confirmed: Eskisheirspor have entered negotiations to sign Frenchman Alfred N'Diaye from Sunderland. ‪#‎SAFC‬ @GFN_France Re: N'Diaye. Unless management forces the player out, very unlikely to leave Sunderland. #SAFC
We have actually only signed 5 first team players 6 if you include the goalie. We have sold, lost or loaned out 7. Then we have current injuries to Catts and Fletch Were not going to sell our best players without replacements. Were going to sign at least 2 fullbacks and another forwad.
And a creative mid mate WANTING MORE ... Sunderland manager Paolo Di Canio attends a pre-match press conference for the Barclays Asia Trophy. By CHRIS YOUNG PAOLO Di Canio wants two full-backs and a midfield playmaker to complete his summer spending spree. The Sunderland head coach has already added eight signings to his new-look squad, yet he is eager to take that tally into double figures with more than a month remaining of the transfer window. With Phil Bardsley out of the frame and thought to be heading to Fulham, Di Canio remains without any specialist full-backs to call upon, with neither Danny Rose nor Gino Peruzzi now likely to join Sunderland. As the Gazette revealed online yesterday, Andre Villas-Boas has ruled out Rose returning to the Stadium of Light after last seasonâs successful loan spree, while Di Canio claimed yesterday that there was âno chanceâ of Peruzzi joining Sunderland, following problems with his medical. Sunderland will continue with their efforts to fill both voids, yet Di Canio has also revealed he is on the look-out for a creator in the middle of the park to become the linchpin of the side. That will still be the case even if midfielder Alfred NâDiaye remains at the Stadium of Light, with Eskiehirspor hoping to take the January signing back to Turkey. Di Canio told the Gazette: âWe need two full-backs to challenge for places and one central midfield player. âWe donât know what will happen with Alfred yet. There is a process. âBut even if he doesnât leave, in my opinion we need a specific player with specific characteristics in there. âIn the way I want to play, I want someone in the middle who can play with Cabral, Seb (Larsson) or even Alfred. âSomeone who brings the keys to the house - an intelligent player with fantastic ability. âThe board knows we are working for two full-backs too. That doesnât mean they will play regular football, but we need the cover to create the competition.â Villas-Boasâ statement on Rose was predictable, with Sunderland given no encouragement this summer in their hopes of re-signing last seasonâs Young Player of the Year. âIt is one of those cases where a loan has worked out extremely well for him and he will definitely be part of our squad this season,â said the Spurs boss. But the collapse of Peruzziâs £3m switch from Velez Sarsfeld is far more of a blow. Velez issued a statement on Monday suggesting Peruzzi would join Sunderland next week after undergoing a second medical with the Black Cats, in Italy. But Di Canio countered that notion here in Hong Kong yesterday by declaring that Sunderland couldnât afford to take a chance on an injured player. It is understood that there is a slight chance that the deal could be resurrected if Sunderlandâs medical concerns are addressed. Yet the Sunderland boss was relatively unequivocal in his stance over Peruzzi when asked directly about the 22-year-old. âAt the moment, there is no chance for Gino Peruzzi to join us,â said Di Canio. âMy club is not a club that can sign players with some problems. âWe are not Manchester City who can think about buying a talented player with an injury and wait for him. âWe are not very late (in the transfer window) but I would like a player ready to join the rest of the group, because the process of integration is not just physical.â
Says in the sun that safc is to sell alfie who has flopped at sunderland, i cannot see how he has flopped at all, i thought his time here he has been very good , i hope he stays
