Inter is completely broke, so we don't have to worry on that account.

Rumours just go round and round. The media just feed off each other. Just remember all those other certs: Schneiderlin to Arsenal, Shaw to Chelsea. I don't think Gaston is going anywhere unless the money is needed for someone better. He won't go unless we want him to. And, personally, I hope he stays.

I don't see it at all. If you ask me some journalists have noticed he hadn't joined up with the squad yet and got carried away.

I think it's a bit more than that. Sounds like Gaston's agent has suggested that Inter are interested.

There's an interesting/possibly worrying dynamic at play there. Reportedly, his agent waived a fee when Gaston signed here after that transfer turned into a debacle. You'd have to think that he'd like to find a way to make his money, though if Gaston and Nicola aren't interested, it still won't get anything done.

I'm sure his main interest will still be in advancing his client's career in terms of salary and playing at the highest possible competitive level, because that's always going to be the best deal for the agent in the long term. Inter aren't playing at a higher level than us right now, but almost certainly have more potential to be in the near future. If they can scrape the money together and are ambitious in spending it, I think Ramirez would be a viable target for them. Whole lot of ifs in there though.

Are we manufacturing stuff to panic about again?

No, this is being reported by Sky Sports.

Also I wouldn't panic about it because I think it could actually be a good deal at the right price.

The only thing that would stop me having a fairly major meltdown over Gaston leaving would be Banega joining (or a similarly talented attacking midfielder).

This is what he said in addition to what's already been posted:

Doesn't sound like he's particularly trying to stir up anything there.

Yeah, that sounds like a nice, neutral non-commital statement.

"He loves it at Southampton, but Inter is also great so who knows what the future holds?" Not insulting either side. He did throw us a bone with the "they'll have to pay a big sum" talk. Didn't Ramirez's agent actually waive his fee to help him move to Southampton? If so, it seems that either he is somewhat of a straight shooter and/or he/Ramirez actually do like it here. There's no pressing reason for Ramirez to move right now after a season of mixed results. If he plays well at Saints he'll have more options next year.

Ramirez isn't a player Saints have to sell or should be looking to sell. But if the offer is right, they can afford to let him go if they know Banega or someone else is coming. That would also probably encourage Ramirez to look elsewhere as well.

Can someone explain to me how Ramirez is getting interest from Inter? I'm not having a dig, but did he have a good season or two in Serie A before we got him? I never saw him play and it's hard to tell with just stats and highlights. If his high price is mainly due to potential rather than what he's shown he can do then I don't know why people expected him to be a star straight away.

That wasn't made up. Chelsea have almost certainly approached us over him. Just because it didn't happen doesn't mean it was never a possibility.

Yeah, he was good for Bologna, he plays a lot for Uruguay and not to mention he wasn't bad for us. And he's 22.

His performances have tended not to be as stellar as his billing, but he does have moments of undeniable class and you can tell just by watching him that if he sharpens up a bit he could be the best player we have by a considerable distance. I didn't see him playing in Italy either but I'm sure his potential was evident there as well.

Plus Inter are not the side they were, and they aren't in the champions league next season after finishing a dismal 9th last time, so perhaps they're having to set their sights a little lower in terms of who they can attract than they normally might.

The reverse is also true. I see no reason to give the story any credence.

Was this actually 'Lambert to take up reading'? This would be a big deal to the average Sun purchaser
