the service he had? presumably you mean the service from Elmo and Brady that he didn't get cause he spent the whole season out injured? the service he had prior to that was nothing special.
I totally agree, hence why I said he wasn't too good at football. I appreciate what he brought to the team, but footballing prowess wasn't one of his attributes.
"He scored a couple" is a phrase. It's obvious he hasn't only score two goals for us, try not to take things to literally
I don't understand why people keep saying about aluko playing behind 2, if we're playing 3-5-2 he'll be playing behind one, making up one of the front two like he did last season. There's no way in he'll he will make up one of the central 3, he'd offer sod all to the position but pace and flair, and his talent would be wasted there where he wouldn't get much chance to run at the enemies back line. The only other place he'll play is on the wing in a back 4 formation.
Everybody always says this; if you did a poll on the last day of the transfer window as to which position we need to fill, 99% of people say striker. Thing is, if we have Fryatt, Proschwitz, Aluko, Gedo Graham and Sagbo, how is signing any more strikers going to help? If Sagbo comes in, it'll probably be Graham and Aluko up front, with Sagbo (who can also play wide), Proschwitz and Gedo on the bench. We can't play them all at once and I imagine not all of them are happy to sit on the bench. This means that it's gonna piss some people off. Not to mention young 'uns like CJM who are trying to break through into the first team but can't because of an excess of strikers in front of him. 6 is more than enough, plus we have Boyd and Brady that can also play there so that's technically 8, plus CJM makes 9. So if you put the reasoning down for playing/keeping each one: Proschwitz: Showed glimpses of quality in his first season, but wasn't going to get in ahead of Simpson/Aluko while they were on form. Looks to have settled in. I think Bruce rates him and isn't going to ship him off. Fryatt: Unlucky with injury, but is a consistent 2nd tier striker. Unknown PL quantity, could be ALF, could be Craig ***an. Bruce had to rush him back because of a lack of options last season. Sagbo: Brucey purchase, will need time to settle but will gradually feature more as the season progresses. CJM: Young, hungry and perhaps a way off the first team, but Bruce clearly sees him as one for the future and will be pushing to make the bench/cups at least. Gedo: Showed predatory instincts in the CCC before being blighted by injury. Has strength and a good finish and AA wants him here. Unavoidable really. Graham: The only striker we have with PL experience and goals, has to be a starter for me and Brucey won't just sit him on the bench. Aluko: Given his explosive style of play, he'd be starting up front every game for me. Brady: Probably won't see too much forward play, given that he'll be playing LW/LWB for most of the season. However, he did look good on the last day. Boyd: Looked like a decent signing when played in a forward role, but sucked in the CM position. Bruce will hopefully see this and limit him to a forward position only. Only signed in Summer, not going to be leaving us. I'm not sure Brucey will be looking to ship out anybody else other than McLean from the striking department. We might see a youth loan come in, but I wouldn't hold your breath for a big name, I think we're done with striker reinforcements. Bruce said he wanted 2 and it looks like that's what he's got. 3 if you count Gedo, who may or may not be coming in.
We've got Graham/Fryatt/Prossy who are all similar tall strikers with limited pace. We've got Boyd/Aluko/Koren who aren't really strikers - they're attacking midfielders who play deep behind a lone striker. I still think we're short on ability up front. The rest of the team with the exception of another midfielder will be fine. Graham is a good signing, but I'd rather add another striker with PL experience.
Isn't somebody trying to get Nelson Oliviera on loan for the season? That's a shrewd bit of business if it comes off...
Just checked and it's Stoke. Apparently QPR are after Hooper, Austin, Crouch, Cole and some foreigner; how many strikers do they want?! Looking forward to seeing Sagbo in action, although I'm a bit gutted that Briand has turned us down.
