Rogers will spout any old ****e from now till the start of the season, same as any manager. Everybody knows if we have a good season transfers will be hailed as a success, if its ****e, people will be doom and gloom.

Nobody knows how its going to turn out but the media needs to feed us something

Apparently Madrid only value Suarez at 25mil <doh>

Giroud has been quoted as saying he'd welcome Suarez and that their aim is to "challenge for 4th place". Pretty much sums up Wenger and his Arsenal side, aim for 4th place trophy again <ok>

Which is exactly why Luis won't go to le Arse.
Not sure his life ambition was the 4th place trophy and the Emirates cup (which they can't even win <doh>)

Considering liverpool are now a mid table team not even in Europe that's pretty funny. There is no hope in hell of you getting near the top 4

Can't argue the point, so just criticises the other team instead <doh>

Arsenal won't win anything because they're a **** average team now. Doesn't mean Liverpool will because our team isn't good enough either - no one here has claimed otherwise. Arsenal are slightly better than us, but still a **** average team who won't win anything. That's the point - dispute or move on.

It's just like the moron United fans:

"United's midfield is ****"
"lol Liverpool's is worse" or "So **** we won the league with it"
Doesn't mean United's midfield isn't ****, just means slightly less **** than ours - but still ****.

But we're not talking about us are we? We're talking about Suarez making a significant step up to further his career.
Pay attention.

I think there's another thread for this! On the other side I think Arsenal should concentrate on getting Higuain as if Liverpool get him in a swap deal that would be a serious blow to L'Arse with Chavski favorites to sign rooney.

We are not slightly better than you. We are considerably better than you, this can be seen by head to head results and points accumulated over the last 5 seasons. Both are stacked massively in favor of Arsenal.

We won't win anything? How do you know that. Plenty of worse teams than us have won trophies over the last 5 years. Portsmouth, Birmingham, Swansea, even you lot won a trophy with Downing being named man of the match. The fact of the matter is we are a better team than Liverpool and are far better equipped as things stand to compete for trophies than Liverpool are. That is with or without Suarez, and he knows it.

Leaving Liverpool, a club who are not even good enough to compete in Europe's secondary competition, to a club who qualify for the elite competition on a yearly basis, is surely going to be a step up in his career, don't you think?

Whilst I agree we should really just go and get Higuain, there is no chance he will be a Liverpool player next season. The likelihood is he will go to Napoli, Suarez to Madrid and we will get Remy or somebody like that.

Seriously?
I said a significant step, so no.
I like Arsenal, I'd much rather you won the league than any of those above but I don't see it happening.
Perennial fourth place is definitely better than us, but not good enough for Suarez if he actually wants to win trophies.

The thing is Arsenal are pretty much in the same boat as Liverpool, In the fact that they don't have the Money to compete in the PL as well as on the CL stage. Although I agree with you that Wenger has done a great job with limited funds in keeping Arsenal in the CL and otherwise keeping the club stable. The current state of the game means you aren't competitive against the top 3 or in the CL.

So why would Suarez move to Arsenal? More money? unlikely Arsenal don't throw it around, CL football? perhaps but he had that at Ajax and he left there, Trophies? 50/50 really.
LFC probably a better shop window for Suarez as hes such a standout, and we also have a clear transfer history with Real his preferred destination.

All further comments will be posted in the Suarez thread.

Why do people keep saying things like "why would Suarez go to a club aiming for 4th place" or "Arsenal don't have the finances to compete?"

If Arsenal buy Suarez for £40M+ then surely that would quash both those statements. People are acting as if nothing will change if he joins us. Giroud's goals won us TWO points last season. Yes, TWO. Suarez would win far more games for Arsenal, there is no doubt he would improve us significantly and help us close the gap on the Mancs.

All of the above based on IF he joins. Still think he won't.

Equally, you're talking as though nothing will change for us and we will be stuck in 7th/8th place.

Can't see Liverpool selling him, not when he still has 3 years left on his contract. Unless someone offers stupid money I don't think he will leave, but maybe next summer with 2 years left and nothing has changed I don't think they will have much choice but to. Surely he can't go to another English team after everything that's been said.

40m when you're trying to compete with clubs spending 100m-200m a season doesn't really compare! Face it Asrenal haven't been a serious contender since the big money came into the league, we tried to keep up and almost went belly up. If you think one 40m player will make you a sudden contender then I think you're a bit delusional.

Arsenal are doing it the right way, but liverpool have found on many occasion, if you want to win trophies with a low budget its gonna come at the cost of league position. Are you prepared to drop out of the CL spots to win some silverware? currently I would say no.

You need to be realistic - just like LFC fans are. We're not going to win anything next season, bar a lucky FA/League cup run - and neither will Arsenal. Congrats if you do manage to get a cup run, but Suarez hardly stays up at night dreaming of the League cup. He wants CL winner medals and league titles. He won't get those here or with Arsenal. The other three are far way ahead of us both - whether you get Suarez or not.

Him moving to you would be an upward step, absolutely if you look at the current state of our clubs, but still achieves nothing for what he wants. I don't understand the appeal of a move to Arsenal. There's a reason your top players have left in recent years...

Despite what BR says, seems like simple economics! We have a team with some players that are on CL final wages finishing 7th-8th in the league. We don't have unlimited money to spend and It looks like Reina's wages have been earmarked as better used elsewhere. We will see next season whether this is a mistake or not, but in principle may allow us to sign better outfield players, we will see.

Looks like Cissokho is coming here on a loan deal with a view to a permanent transfer.

Sunderland eye Valencia left-back Cissokho, but Liverpool will be rivals

By Graeme Anderson
Published on 22/07/2013 08:30

SUNDERLAND are believed to have made an enquiry for Valencia left-back Aly Cissokho after long-running efforts to sign Argentine full-back Lucas Orban failed to pay off.

The French international of Senegalese descent has the pace and energy boss Paolo Di Canio wants in that position and, at 25, fits the template of the sort of player Sunderland are now looking to recruit – good, young players who can improve further.

But, at the moment, if there is interest from the Black Cats, it is only at the very tentative stage.

Cissokho would be a top-quality signing, if Sunderland can lure him to the Stadium of Light.

And Sunderland will be aware that cash-strapped Valencia are weighing up options in terms of fund-raising sales.

The Black Cats’ biggest problem, though, might not be in persuading Valencia to sell, but Cissokho to leave.

And if the full-back is to leave the Mestalla, Liverpool are likely to aggressively pursue his signature.

Cissokho said recently: “Every player at the club is subject to speculation given the financial situation.

“I’ve had possibilities, that’s true, but I’m happy here, I’ve played in big games in both the Champions League and La Liga.”

Liverpool have been tracking the defender for some time and would be expected to rival Sunderland if Cissokho eventually leaves Spain.

Sunderland’s need for a new left-back is their most pressing concern after a summer of recruitment which has still to address the gap left by the return to Spurs of on-loan left-back Danny Rose, who spent all last season on Wearside.

The Black Cats have pursued Atletico Tigre defender Orban since the end of last season, along with Spanish sides Villarreal and Sevilla, but are now believed to have grown weary of the player’s failure to make progress on the potential move.

Neither is Rose likely to be a viable option, despite the England Under-21 international’s successful stint at the Stadium of Light.

Spurs are reportedly ready to give Rose a first-team opportunity at White Hart Lane this season.

And with Sunderland also losing out to Marseille in the race for French defender Benjamin Mendy, the Wearsiders are having to re-cast their net for a new left-back.

Sunderland were given no encouragement after making an enquiry for Eintracht Frankfurt’s Bastian Oczipka last week, while they have also been linked with Inter Milan’s Italian Under-21 international Cristiano Biraghi.

Biraghi’s agent, Mario Giuffredi, admits a move to Sunderland – where the 20-year-old would be reunited with ex-Inter chief scout Valentino Angeloni – is an attractive one.

“At the moment, I put the Premier League as the boy’s first-choice,” said Giuffredi. “Playing in England is the dream of all the players.

“There is also Angeloni who knows the guy right from the youth team and Di Canio is a great coach.

“It is definitely a welcome destination. We’ll see the evolution of the market.”

20. Much like with Sturridge and Coutinho, Cissokho was a 'next best thing' when he was younger but, as of yet, is yet to live up to that potential. The difference is, DS and PC just needed to be playing regularly to show what they could do, AC has been playing regularly for years!
