We were well short of even being poor. One of the worst 90 mins ive seen in a long while. For some of the second half Walsall had 4 16 year olds playing and they were still outplaying us. Very disappointed it was the first time in ages I'd been upbeat going to a game. Before anyone says it was only a pre season friendly its the same for both teams and they managed to perform but we did not.
I seem to remember our first team being hammered 4-0 at home to Bury in pre-season just before our first season back in the Championship, and we didn't do too badly that year. Poor result and performance yesterday but pre-season results aren't important. I'm sure we'll improve anyway
But the manager wasn't worried about his attacking options at that time, as we had plenty. McDermott seems lost for options going forward. In fact I believe the quote was something along the lines of "without wingers it's difficult to alter the system" - implying we're one dimensional. I can see another bad season on the horizon, although that shouldn't be cause for panic. I expect that next summer we shall hold onto our best players, some of the deadwood will be gone due to expired contracts, and we will continue to build, slowly. McDermott is here for the long haul.
I'm actually surprised we can't get wingers on the cheap. If there's anything Grayson/Bates/Williams could find for free from some skanky foreign club's waste pile, it was always a tricky winger or two. And yet BMcD is famed for his scouting prowess. Strange.
No was in the bar upto kick off and the atmosphere was pretty good then just the usual leeds high spirits. But the guy on the door would not let drinks out into the stands even in plastic bottles so that could have caused a flare up, but only guessing.
