Mikey, I suppose we could also tell you about the other televised classes. They are Moto2 and Moto3, and incidentally, they don't compete at Laguna Seca, but they do everywhere else.

Moto2 replaced 250cc two strokes a few years ago and is an ultra competitive class using identical sealed Honda 600cc 4 cylinder inline-across-the-frame racing engines. They have prototype frames and running gear. Frequently, Moto2 is the most exciting class of the lot as it is so close.
Moto3 replaced 125cc two strokes and are in their second year. They use prototype designed 250cc 4T engines within tight design guidelines, A crazy beginners World Championship for fairing bangers. Such as big field in both Moto2 and Moto3 means that their are regular comings together. Both classes are slightly slower than the classes they replaced, which shows how powerful the old 2Ts were.

Moto2 and Moto3 are available on the Red Button during MotoGP weekends and their races are on iPlayer for 7 days after the event, along with the main race.

You may know I used to follow F1, as I've mentioned it many times. I also mentioned that I used to nod off during the races, so I stopped about 10 years ago. I've watched bike racing for donkey's years where possible. I have never fallen asleep during a race. :)

Cheers pal, had seen them mentioned but wasn't entirely sure how they functioned or if they were just little diddly races behind the main event, I'll keep my eye out for them too from now on.

*EDIT* Also, I've just realised I now know what (who) your signature is in reference to. ;)

I would definitely recommend watching these. Some fantastic racing to be found there. And we've got a couple of good Brits coming through, especially in Moto2. Scott Redding's leading the championship right now, and Danny Kent is steadily improving with each race. Look out for him in the future.

The next race is on August 18 at Indianapolis, so that'll be at a great time for us Brits to watch <ok>

    Well spotted..!

Shame you've come to MotoGP this late as the Beeb are in their last season of coverage. In the UK it shifts to BT Sport next season and comes free with BT Broadband. It's enough of a draw for me to swap over. Oh, and there are a few football matches they've thrown in too. <laugh>

I'd keep watching F1 too though. The days of terribly tedious races are a fair way gone now.

Indeed, I was probably going to get BT Sport anyway for the football and on the off chance they show a Saints match (I subscribed to ESPN last season largely because they might have shown a Saints game or two, and they were showing the Monday night NFL game, a couple of months later they promptly lost the NFL rights to the BBC and they didn't show a bloody Saints game all season!), I suppose this gives me a little bonus reason.

That's true, but they do use gimmicks, in my opinion, to brighten it up. I've tried going back, but there just isn't the razor edge excitement of two wheels. Cars drivers make a mistake and they can recover. Bike racers make a mistake and the race is almost always over, so the risks are much greater. Plus they often get catapulted into the air. I don't watch for those moments, but the potential of them being there means that the races have a much greater edge for me. There's also so much more overtaking that it's ridiculous and I contend that that's what racing is all about. Also, being a biker means that I woah and ouch with every tankslapper and hi/lo-side. I also feel that bike racers are much more approachable and happy-go-lucky. It just suits me down to the ground.

And besides, who wouldn't want to get some idea of what the two wheeled guys are doing when you have this temptation..? It's not the fastest or the most agile, but it's mine. :)

Don't say things like that, I'm still in the denial stage of grieving.

Don't think they've even finished filming it yet, last I read Cuberbatch and Freeman becoming big Hollywood stars has delayed filming somewhat. I'd guess it'll be out around Christmas time or early next year.

Oh ****. Right, this needs to be a royal baby-free zone. Unless the baby comes out dead or disabled or a monster or something, no discussing this story.

Agreed. Anyone who discusses the subject should be banned from here until the start of the season. :)
