Tony Martins injuries were worse but he carried on. Hockey players play on with broken ribs, wrists ankles etc, even torn knee ligaments.
It never ceases to amaze me the capacity that professionals in other sports have to continue playing with serious injuries......although there are some cases where the doctors should step in and say no.....
Martin should not have been allowed to race, he lost conciousness in the team bus after stage 1. Concussions should mean an automatic exclusion.
In rugby concussion was a supposedly minimum 3 weeks lay off.....but now even that has gone bye the bye players are back within the week.....there will be alot of professional sportsmen/women who will suffer serious arthritous and other ailments issues in their 30's and 40's simply because of what they put their bodies through for "professional" sport...
Tell me about it, i had 5 operations on my ankles to shave the bone down caused by wear and tear from football. NHL players have to go through brain tests at the start of the season, they can only come back to play after their scans match the normal brain pattern. Half a dozen players have trouble going through normal life and cant even go outside because the light gives them headaches.
Didn't see it yesterday but Froome has really put the hammer down, a terrific win and he looks the part. I don't see any of the others being able to come back from this and unless he has an accident it's his to lose...
I watched the extended Eurosport highlights last night - what a stage! Sky without wiggins looks a mean and efficient machine and Porte & froome blew contador away
Like Wubba, I only saw the highlights last night. Froome was awesome, just like an EPO-fueled Armstrong flying up a mountain (but clean, mehopes!). I know we are only 8 stages in but the gap is getting big early on. Would like to see the French (Roche) and Birmingham (Martin) born Irish do well though
People ITK think sky are doping, their doctor is a convicted doper and they have these riders come out of nowhere to suddenly be world class? Im very suspicious of them especially as about half the recent winners have been convicted and DQd.
Are you watching it live now? It's all kicked off, moviestar trying to smash froome and Porte has blown and it's froome defending on his own. Epic stuff. I hope he pulls this off Going to be a long 2 weeks
A historic day in Irish sport yesterday CorkeR and sport in general with Murray. An Irishman wins a stage in the tour for the first time since 1992. Graeme Mc Dowell wins the French Open. Dublin win the Leinster Hurling title for the first time in 52 years. Murray winning Wimbledon was great too.
Looks like something should happen to cav, he took down a rider on purpose by barging him over in the final sprint. The stupid thing is that it was someones lead out man who was coasting.
Just read a piece in the Sunday Times by David Walsh the journalist who outed Armstrong and he believes that Froome is clean.....Terrific performance by Sky Team......just like buses you wait an age then 2 turn up......
Yes a great result and I think froome proved he wasn't superhuman especially after almost collapsing on the second ascent of alpe d'huez. Hard work, sport science and a strong team ethic - hmmm if only we had that
