From my standpoint I'd say almost. The signing of Berra is a good one and brings experience. I would like to see mm add a steely midfielder to and if money permitted one with a little flair about him.
I'd say top 10 yes, but top six may be a little to far at the moment. Defensively we are looking very good, but I think we will struggle with goals. I don't think we have any real goal scoring midfielders, by this I mean scoring 7-10 goals a season and I don't think our strikers are prolific. McGoldrick is are best bet at a 20+ goal striker, but I think he will score his goals in patches. I think next season will be more exciting for us town fans and we will flirt with the top 6 for most of the season but eventually fall just short.
I'm not going to set my sights too high. I just want us to stay firmly rooted in the top half all season and not have to worry about relegation. Anything above tenth will be a real bonus and I do feel that we could surprise a lot of people this year. Top six is not out of our reach, but many teams will feel the same way too. I have a feeling that with Mick in charge we will be able to close games out where we have a one goal advantage and pull off some ugly wins and draws when we aren't playing well.
You both make very valid points. A midfielder that can chip in with 10 goals and that striker we can rely on to hit 20+. And as we showed in last few months we were very tight in defence and if we can continue in that vein top 10 should be achievable. I cannot go thru another nail biting season like last.
I will probably get slated for this but I'm thinking a top 2 position is possible. i am feeling rather optimistic at the moment which could be down to the cidre and the sunshine. Who do you think will be top 6.
Optimism at its best. You may be slightly squiffy with the cidre indeed. I can see all 3 relegated teams up there. Especially Wigan with coyle in charge. Watford again will challenge as will forest. But this is the championship and anything can conceivably happen.
I'd say defensively our back line is looking very good, one of the best in the league and you never know we may well be a top 6 side for most of next season, we're organised and have a good team spirit, that's a good combination in this division. I would imagine we'll be one of the more consistent teams in the division. But in terms of the squad, for me it lacks that killer touch upfront and doesn't have the most creativity from midfield, so I don't think it'll be overly pretty or we'll be scoring a great deal of goals next season. I have a feeling Murphy will be our top scorer this season. I think if we were to sign a top GK, a pacey LW a playmaking CM and a penalty box striker we'd be well up there. top 10 would be great but I wouldn't be surprised if we're in and around the top 6 all season.
I'm with Hog - i honestly think we could be automatic material. If we could have a good start, then i think that will set us up nicely for the season. We seem to be a "confidence" team...when we're playing well and getting results, we go on a long streak, and the same when we lose a few...we also go on a winless streak - we've never been consistant lately, we seem to go unbeaten for ten games, then can't win for another ten games.
Not top 6 for me. I cant see us having the lows and the roller coaster of the last few seasons but I dont really see a spark in our squad that can turn us from decent to brilliant. Top 10 can be acheiveable but not sure about getting the goals, although we should be keeping clean sheets or at least only conceding 1's or 2's. Defensively we look strong, midfield we look steady and upfront we look fairly average. I Like McGoldrick and even Murphy done a better job last season than I was expecting but it doesnt shout goals to me. I think we need a poacher to go with McGoldricks craft and Murphys physicality or someone who can score a few from midfield. Having said that MM seems to get a lot more from a squad than what it appears should be achievable so maybe it will be a good season.
I think the good thing about the team Mick has built is that (correct me if I'm wrong) the new signings have all been 2 years+ and so far we don't have any loan players. This means that even if we just fall short of top 6 this season we don't have to rebuild the entire squad again next year! I also think Mick has done the right thing by building from the back - if you never conceive a goal you will never lose a game. I think going from 'nearly relegation' form last season to automatic promotion form is too big of a leap, so I am hoping for a top 10 finish but I would be happy with top half.
Nice point you make there Wrighty about Mick building a team that should be together for a couple of years. Consistent performances go hand in hand with having a consistent squad. The last couple of years have all been about making a team for the here and now but that looks to be changing with a good mix of experience and youth being brought in.
Under Mick last season we were top six material so i don't think it is much of a leap thinking that with a full pre season and a bunch of Micks new players brought in that we will improve.
you could be right about being close to the top six with the new players in could be close to the top two infact,in league one ???
VERY hard to say. Delighted with our summer transfer work, IF we could offload Chopra and sign a very tidy striker that would be the icing on the cake for me! Also have a feeling Mick will add 1 or 2 real quality players on loan. Many variables - Taylor could be a real coup. For me, we perhaps don't have the best squad in the division, however we clearly have one of the best 4 or 5. Absolutely class manager is Mick. However, lets look at the other sides in the division. These are my predictions. Battling to win it = QPR/ Reading/ Watford. Then, we have the likes of Forest/Leicester/Bolton/Brighton plus many other sides. For me, it's literally impossible to call. There won't be a lot in it from 4-15....!
Don't forget us lads were doing a bit of good business and more to come ,our early meeting should be intresting
Yes it will. With micks nouse we'll have the edge. I work with a lion too so bragging rights are at stake.
