How many pre-seasons do we have to live through before people realise that the results, and even performances, simply don't matter and don't appear to have any connection to how City perform in the opening few proper games?
I couldn't agree more. We have this ****ing discussion at this same time every year and STILL some people don't get it. Literally, the only thing on any player's mind in a friendly is 'do not get injured'. We've been brilliant in some friendlies, shocking in others and NEITHER had a reflection on how we did in the season proper.
Couldn't agree more. I've seen some shockers; the die hard among you will remember a 4-0 defeat to Crewe in our promotion season and at some point there was the 3-2 defeat to Winterton Rangers, where Northern got a hat trick. But at the beginning of 2011/12 we beat Liverpool 3-0 and we beat a Premier League Sunderland 1-0.
also in the same pre-season we drew at Doncaster and Stockport. Still it came good at the end of the season.
Some people need to realize how stupid they sound slagging the team off at every opportunity. Get a grip.
I won't mention any names, but theses people do seem to be the same ones that talk **** whatever the discussion is...
plus there are different types of friendlies - this game in Portugal vs Wednesday isn't as high profile as the one vs Liverpool at the KC a couple of seasons ago, the manager & training staff will see the early games as trying out certain tactics and positions, getting up to speed, combinations. Then we move onto Germany.
Spot on. People simply just show their naïveté and stupidity. No doubt they exercise their idiocy in other aspects of life too; perhaps one should be grateful to just witness their inadequacy in this respect. You’d think people would be excited and optimistic: we’re on the verge of returning to the Premier League. A division I probably didn’t actually expect us to return to. Yet people ****ing piss and moan that we’re not beating North Ferriby convincingly or Sheff Wed in matches that are utterly utterly meaningless. We’ve also got some silly ****s being ‘nervous’ that we’re not spending millions on international centre forwards or saying that we lack ambition because we’re clearly being careful. It was the same last season. After the Barnsley game (and a few before) the knives really came out despite us actually being in a position I'd have killed for previously with a team that ultimately made it anyway. I’m not having a pop at young people or new fans here, just ****ing stupid ones (of all ages) and some of these aforementioned fans are old enough and have been going long enough to have no excuse to have still learnt nothing. Yes, be critical. But also be balanced and aware.
I seem to recall one of the most successful pre-seasons was that of Mark Hateley. Then we started off with a 3-0 mauling at Mansfield. People who go on about pre-season games as though they are a sign of what is to come are either young or have memory problems.
I Bournemouth play Real Madrid tonight. £60.00 per ticket. Friendliest are just training aids. Will either of the above teams make drastic changes because of tonight? I must admit that I am worried about Matt Fraytt's lack of pace, bit that's not new. Will he cut it in the PL, well we will find out soon enough.
I'va got a ticket for Olympique Lyon vs Real Madrid wednesday night 10 mins from my flat.. price.. €10
Pissed (well nearly) but the Bournemouth match is a sell out!! I am actually just going to have a little nap. Scuba diving in Kimmeridge Bay today. I had a bit of excitement. Just finning along, providing extra safety cover for a dive instructor with two newbie divers on tethers. I looked down and a gold medallion was highlighted by the sunlight. It was about the size of my palm and about half an inch thick. I reached down and.....
