Football is petty tribalism <whistle> - it is supposed to be clean tribalism, the kind that replaces the race/nation hating stuff.

I jumped into the argument late too - I just seen Gambol equate the singing of Republican songs or 'clapping one's hands if one hates the Orange Order' as sectarian, when alone by themselves they are not sectarian acts. I know plenty of Republicans who may be wrong in their political outlook, but they are not necessarily sectarian people (my dad is a staunch Republican for instance and his only two children both married Protestants - and he was encouraging if anything about it). Also the comments section of the Daily Mail were recently filled with English people lambasting the Orange Order for their backward Religious bollocks - Daily Mail reading English people are not sectarian for hating the Orange Order.

Team 1 is arguing that it is sectarian to be anti sectarian.

Team 2 is arguing this is stupid.

Aye, Ciaran, I read it and also None Shall Divide Us by Michael Stone. They are both quite shocking (and sad) books although Lenny Murphy is far worse than Stone (and that's saying something). Murphy would probably have murdered people no matter where or when he was born, he just happened to use the Troubles as a vehicle for his uber violence. As one of his fellow loyalists said, he was a 'typical psychopath'.

Team 1 said by definition encouraging division or hared of another group is sectarianism. The Oxford English Dictionary agrees.

Team 2 claimed a bunch or arseholses encouraging hatred of the orange order at a football match was anti-sectarianism. By implicaction a protest. Aye. Ok. That's what they were doing <laugh>

Oh aye, and Ciaran reckons am a bigot. <laugh>
