Why diss Michael Carrick, he has one of the best vision (passes) in the premiership and protects the back four and UTD hardly leak goals with him playing. Thoughts?
I actually agree, yeah im a fan of MC and i think personally hes a top players player, very underrated!!!
I read a very good article pointing out that Carrick gets regularly slated for making most of his passes sideways. But when Xavi makes most of his passes sideways, he's the best player in the world. I'm obviously not comparing the two, but it does go to show that some of the people criticising Carrick are doing so just to criticise him, and not out of any objective view of his abilities.
I think Carrick is actually a decent player, deserves the role he gets because he does it well. People would get off his back if the other central midfielder does the attacking and lets Carrick stay back.
He simply does not have the name of Gerrard or Lampard, shame as he was picked for England there and got injured, i think he is just unlucky and deserves more respect from the fans.
Carrick is a solid player who while he won't win you games, he won't lose you many either. Yes, he has made mistakes but so has every footballer who has ever lived.
The Roma 7-1 win just showed that he can strike a ball when needed, great at holding the midfield and protecting Rio Vidic etc but should have a pop at goal more, then the critics will shut up..
how long ago was rome?and he only played well for the final few months of this season.but in that time made some pretty big mistakes.his downfall will always be his lack of pace. also if he doesnt win games, and wont lose you many, then what is his job?surely other midfielders could do a better job.
Im using Roma as an example, Fergie commands him to protect the defense but he would be better going forward more thats all, hes a lot better than Lucas...
He's a wooden 1... just like Owen, Hargreaves etc etc. Another expensive flopped who has played well in a handful of games.
Carrick gets slated by a lot of people for the simple reason that the average football fan does not have a deep understanding of football tactics. In this country the press are obsessed with goals and assists and thus fans follow, but in truth the most important man in any team is the guy that links play. This is what Xavi does, Modric does and more recently we have seen Wilshere doing it for Arsenal. Carricks contribution is even more subtle because he plays deeper than the aforementioned, if you watch most of your football on TV you will hardly see any of what he does in terms of his movement and covering and if all you look for is the final ball you have failed to realise that the ball has to get to that person before he can deliver the final ball. Last time I checked Carrick was leading the league in interceptions and tackles and United have the best defensive record with him in the team, he does also link play well but it is virtually impossible to both protect the back 4, recycle possession, carry the ball and be creative all at the same time. It seems unless Carrick manages to combine all disciplines of a central midfielder he will face criticism from some sections.
