Sunderland have made an offer for highly-rated Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne, according to the playerâs agent. Black Cats manager Paolo Di Canio is on the lookout for another striker after loaning Danny Graham to Hull City this week, and is hoping to pull off a coup by landing Insigne. The 22-year-old is rated as a huge star in Serie A, while he has also turned out for Italy at full international level. And according to agent Fabio Andreotti, Sunderland believe they would make a good option for Insigne to continue his career. âThere has been an offer from Sunderland for Insigne,â Andreotti told Italian radio. âWe met with Napoli to discuss it, and Rafa Benitez assured us there is a role at the club for the player next season. He likes him a lot.â But despite Napoli intending to hang onto the striker, Di Canio is planning to go all out to try and lure him to the Premier League. Insigne would be offered guaranteed first-team football at the Stadium of Light next term â ideal as he bids to earn a place in the Italy squad ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next year. Napoli would be unable to match that, especially as owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed they are hopeful of signing big-name duo Gonzalo Higuain and Leandro Damiao. Sunderlandâs opening bid was thought to be around £6million, but Napoli would want substantially more than that. Di Canio has already raided his homeland twice this summer, bringing in Emanuele Giaccherini from Juventus and Modibo Diakité from Lazio, while Vito Mannone, Valentin Roberge, David Moberg Karlsson, Jozy Altidore, El-Hadji Ba and Cabral have also joined. http://metro.co.uk/2013/07/20/sunde...sation-lorenzo-insigne-agent-reveals-3890934/

i dont know mate, this : Insigne would be offered guaranteed first-team football at the Stadium of Light next term – ideal as he bids to earn a place in the Italy squad ahead of the World Cup in Brazil next year. Napoli would be unable to match that, especially as owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed they are hopeful of signing big-name duo Gonzalo Higuain and Leandro Damiao. gives me hope
Dont know how we can offer guaranteed first team football .If thats the case there are going to be a few disapointed players in the set up .
Maybe fletchers injury is worse than we think, think i read he'll be back in training for the start of the season
He was back running when the lads returned for pre season so he's been back in training a while, all depends on the physio program (he might have pulled up aswell?), He'll defo miss hong kong but might be fit enough for the other preseason games. It's very very doubtful he'll be fully match fit(to PDC's Standard) for the first game of the season through.
I've been told that he (SF) will miss all pre season and wont be fully ready until September at the earliest so we DO need cover, or just pure competition?
yeah maybe and if and but and all that . We do need someone to challenge fletch for the main striker role just a bit worring with all these new players and no prem experience we could be in a bit of a pickle come xmass . As you know being a sunderland fan its hard to keep the faith at times . At best at the moment I am living on hope more than anything .
I would drop him full stop. Johnson - Insigne - Giaccherini Altidore Thats what I play against Fulham.
Jesus, he's 5'4" apparently! Outrageously talented but imagine him playing against Ivanovic, Vidic, Huth etc. Giacherrini is 5'6" and he look tiny against the rest of the team! I'd love to get Insigne though. I think he could do 15+ in a debut season.
Yeah what you have to remember is though that Napoli aren't in a normal possition at the moment. Sure they've just sold club icon Cavani for £54m and apparently Benitez rates Insigne to perhaps set into the shoes of Cavani, but, with £54m in their pockets and the fact that the fans will be pissed they have lost their star asset means the club will more than likely buy one or two big name strikers to step into the void. Say they sign two strikers worth £15m+ a piece, those strikers would go to Napoli expecting to play and their fans would expect them to play to. I think this will mean Insigne is demoted again to being a backup player, and with this year being a world cup year Insigne might be tempted and Napoli might be willing to sell for the right price. I think we would have to wait till Napoli make some transfer moves and I think £8.5m+ would do the trick. Giaccherini seemed incredibly unlikely when first mentioned. He has high stock after Confed. Cup performances, Conte said he didn't want to sell and the player's agent said Giaccherini didn't want to leave. Things changed when Tevez and Ilorente were confirmed and Juve needed to balance the books. Giaccherini knows this world club will probably be his last chance at 28 and wanted to start for a team to be in contention rather than warm the bench. Insigne could go the same way........... We will see. I give it 50/50.
A few weeks ago I asked why we were assuming Fletcher would stay? It was just a punt in the dark. Is it possible that PDC doesn't rate any of our last season's squad at all?
