PUBLISHED 10:00 20th July 2013 by @OfficialQPR Previewing tonightâs clash at Stadion Villach Lind ⦠BUOYED by Thursday nightâs friendly victory over Besiktas, the Râs are back in pre-season action against Udinese this evening. Andy Johnsonâs second half goal secured Rangers their first win of the pre-season campaign at the Seeboden Stadium two days ago, but the Râs wonât expect to have things all their own way when they come up against top Serie A opposition at Stadion Villach Lind â kick-off 4.00pm UK time. Udinese, who include Italian hot-shot Antonio Di Natale in their ranks, finished the Italian top-flight campaign in fifth spot last season, booking themselves a place in the Europa League for the forthcoming season in the process. Gaffer Francesco Guidolin has recently signed a new deal to the summer of 2017 and will be hoping Di Natale, who bagged a remarkable 23 goals in 33 appearances last season, continues his rich vein of form this term. Stephane Mbia and Armand Traore, who both missed Thursdayâs win both took part in training yesterday morning and could feature, although the game is likely to come too early for Richard Dunne, Jamie Mackie and Loic Remy. Rob Green is expected to return in goal for the Râs, while young EDS quarter Michael Harriman, Max Ehmer, Frankie Sutherland and Mo Shariff are all likely to feature. I really hope that the youth/reserve team players are really given an opportunity this coming season. Thought Harriman looked solid enough vs Liverpool in our last PL game.
Players like him and Ehmer would be good enough to be 3rd or 4th choice. We dont need more average or depth players, we need 1st choice players.
Well, the players brought in last season were all supposedly first choice players and they were awful. Besides, how do you actually know what the youth teamers are capable of, particularly if they're never been given an opportunity? There used to be a certain amount of pride seeing a player coming through the ranks and breaking into the first team, seems unfortunate that our own supporters don't want to see some home-grown players wearing the shirt.
Remy yet again not playing. Beginning to wonder if he really is injured or we actually dont want him injured. STARTING: Green Simpson, Hill, Onuoha, Suk Young Park, Faurlin, Jenas, Hoilett AJ, Zamora SUBS: Murphy, Derry, SWP, Granero, Ehmer, Harriman, Mbia, Sutherland No Dunne, Mackie or Traore either.
I agree. Let's include some of these players in the 25 and the match day squads. We need to build an identity as a club which in my opinion involves having some home-grown talent in the ranks. Harriman as a backup fullback would seem like a small risk overall, and surely preferable to Boswinga.
I think the original report says Mackie and Remy are both injured and Dunne's not match fit. I can't see why the management team would want to ostracize Remy at this stage of the season, but a falling out's possible, I suppose.
Exactly, the #11 who played today looked better than SWP and hes on less than 1/20th of the wages. Young players dont need to be included in the 25.
It never used to but I think it does now. This stream is abysmal. its freezing for 20 secs at a time with the commentary carrying on. udinese are playing in a pub team kit. another should out for us.
Another shoutout to the not606! Who tweeted that by the way, we follow eachother on twitter but not sure of your name on here!
