http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/news/liga-vilanova-leave-barca-focus-cancer-battle-160254870.html Liga - Vilanova 'to leave Barca and focus on cancer battle' Barcelona have announced a press conference for 7:30pm where they are expected to announce Tito Vilonova's exit from the club. According to local reports, the Barcelona coach is to leave his position for good to battle his cancer after recent tests outlined a second relapse. Barcelona president Sandro Rosell and sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta will brief the media at the unexpected press conference. The 44-year-old Vilanova spent two months in New York earlier this year undergoing radiotherapy and chemotherapy treatment for cancer, having twice had surgery on his parotid gland in Spain over the last 18 months. Former Girona coach Joan Francesc Ferrer Rubi is expected to be named as Vilanova's replacement. 'Rubi' only joined the Barcelona staff this summer and was set to be Vilanova's assistant.
Wonder who they'll line up. That new bloke as nova's assistant would be a huge gamble... Alot of the big names have moved on this summer already too.Maybe Schteve McClaren?
who knows.... this is one of those things. you have to give the guy himself the very best wishes.... then examine the situation. Vilanova was only given the job for a business as usual approach once guardiola left. keeping messi and xavi and the like happy. Now you've nobody like that to come in unless you make xavi the manager. I would have to say that a few ex barca players come more to mind than AVB frankly.... however i;d be delighted to see spurs F'd up having signed paulinho... Laudrup is the real candidate i see from english league.... who else would there be?
True but Laudrup did move from Barcelona to Madrid which is the big no-no over there. Who else in the English league? No one that springs to mind.
I disagree, yes the new manager inherits a talented squad and the best player in the world but it's a competitive league and Real will also have a good team. It also depends on how the club define success, I imagine winning the league or at least coming close is just expected and the same in the cup while also doing well in the Champions league, I don't think it's an easy job.
Vilanova has just shown how easy it is. befoe he went for treatment didnt barcelona make their best ever start? then didnt they still win the title without a manager for a large part of the season?
It's a fair argument and down to opinion I suppose. Barcas only rival is Real so one of them was going to win it and a good team has good staff throughout so that the loss of a manager is not the end. The manager is the one who sorts out the fine details, would they have got further in the Champions League with a manager in place?
All the best to Vilanova On the replacement argument, although I agree with MITO about the expectations making it harder, I think most managers could win things with that side. They play the same way whether it be the league, cup or CL. The starting eleven is more of less the same for each game and they've been playing together for years too. so long as they don't put a McClaren or Hodgson in charge, they'll be fine. It would be interesting to see them appoint Xavi as boss mind
Hope he gets well soon Wonder if they'll promote from within again. Just use someone from the youth team where they already play the same football, know the club & players inside out and just carry on the "Barca" way.
