I discovered, only today, that Gerry Dammers was inspired to write Ghost Town after visiting Glasgow, is that anywhere near Motherwell?
Hmm you've changed your post anyway if you're interested (50m56s in):
I was going to say Liverpool, but then remembered he had said it was Glasgow. Googled and confirrmed!
Jerry Dammers wrote the song while living in Tottenham, but it's actually about the decline of industrial cities such as Glasgow, Liverpool and Coventry.
Of course I did, he said he got the Idea when he visited Glasgow "But it wasn't just about Glasgow it was about the whole country, it was about Coventry as well".
Please point out the error in my previous statement: "Gerry Dammers was inspired to write Ghost Town after visiting Glasgow".
Right after you point out where I was wrong when I said "I always thought it was Coventry, is that not where the Specials came from?" I never said you were wrong did I? I said "I was right" about the Specials being from Coventry. You seem to have taken umbrage and want me to argue over semantics. Not going to happen.
The Specials came from Coventry, that is not in dispute. Dammers was not inspired by Coventry to write the song, the inspiration was a trip to Glasgow. Was your granny featured in the clip selling her teacups on the street?
You should have stopped while you were behind. The footage was not of The Street or even a Street, anyone from Glasgow could have told you that was Paddy's Market, if that was what Jerry Dammers saw (which influenced him) then he is as daft as you. So once again, where did I say Dammers was not "Influenced" by a trip to Glasgow? In your own time.
I`m not sure, they also had one I liked called " Rude Boys Outta Jail " which was, amazingly, centred around the tale of Rude Boys who were no longer suffering the ignominy of judicially sanctioned incarceration.
