True but as a Liverpool fan you know that no player regardless of how good they are, are bigger than the club. Any unsettling element must be dealt with firmly by Moyes and if that ultimately means letting him go, then so be it. I'd imagine the first 1-2 seasons at Chelsea would be hunky dory but then Wayne would probably start crying again looking for more money or a move elsewhere. Who knows? If life's so tough, he should try getting a job in the real world instead of moaning.
I think Chelsea will offer enough for United to think it's a good deal for a player who has become a back up striker/makeshift midfielder. Not getting Rooney would be a bad start to Jose Loves Roman II so they have to see it through. I still find it odd that Jose thinks United's second choice striker is the answer to Chelsea overtaking United.
The only thing that's certain in this saga is that Mourinho doesn't want Torres or Ba as his main striker.
Just had a thought. We all know Moyes can finish 3rd next season and remain employed by United. What if Mourinho finishes 3rd? He'll certainly be sacked but what happens to Chelsea then? I think its safe to say Jose is under immense pressure and he's not so good under pressure as he showed last season.
everyone always went on about how SAF had the power over the refs but they don't seem the same way with Moyes, Mourinho on the other hand the new "media darling" well who knows.
True but they dont have to let him go to Chelsea, if he does put in a request other clubs might make offers possibly. When Liverpool were in a position of challenging United would not improve our squad by selling us Heinze even though he wanted out. Same with Torres, if we'd been in a stronger position league wise and Rafa was still in charge, do you think we would have let Torres go to Chelsea if they had offered in those circumstances. I think Moyes has a mind to keep Rooney and most of the words being bandied about are mostly the media. If Rooney wanted out 100% a transfer request would\will be put in and even so that still does not mean United have to choose Chelsea as the club to sell to. I obviously could be very wrong but I don't see Rooney going to Chelsea this summer
I think theres still a 90% chance Rooney will stay for another season. We'll still get £25-30million for him in a year as well.
I understand where you are coming from but remember a great many players these days do not hand in requests but look to pressure the clubs in forcing them out. I think Rooney if he is planning to stay needs to release a statement and publicly say so and back the manager. Otherwise bye bye. No one is bigger than Utd.
This. I think Rooney has burnt his bridges at Utd, and Moyes certainly didnt help. He will leave. Whether its to Chelsea I cannot be sure, but I think he will leave now. It would take some U-turn to fix all this now.
Not saying he is bigger than the club, just don't see him going to London to strengthen a rival for the coming season
Well missing out on Cavani and Falcao probably didn't help matter! Our midfield and certainly the attacking side of it is better than yours though so some argue we are only a top striker away. He might be your 2nd choice but if he is better than what we have then it improves us and probably weakens you (squad wise at the very least). Still not going to happen this year though and wouldn't be suprised if we ended up with Higuain.
Excerpt from good article in Telegraph by Mark Ogden. Would not be surprised to see Rooney be sold but at inflated price.
I remember people saying the same thing back in 2010. Then Rooney made a massive U-turn, apologised to the manager, board and fans, and helped us win two out of the next three league titles. No guarantee it will happen, but stranger things have in football.
I have said pretty much the same thing. If Jose is serious about signing him, there is no way we are going to get him for less than £30-35m. Some reports put our opening bid at £16m
The first time I dont think he seriously wanted to leave, I think it was all about getting a new contract. City at the time were the only realistic destination for him in the UK, we had just bought Torres. I dont know to be honest. I just cant see this getting mended
Perhaps, although he had been offered a new contract which was reportedly not too far off the one he got in the end, just with more performance bonuses. And given he's denied making a transfer request or wanting to leave, it seems that he doesn't seriously want to leave this time. Makes me wonder how much of his 'anger and confusion' is just invented by the media, who were the ones who published the selective quotes from Moyes' press conference that allegedly made him angry in the first place.
Said this this morning re the invention of his anger and frustration amongst other things being offered by the media. They seem to be pushing for the move as much as Jose. If Rooney wants out 100% he puts in a transfer request, and given that Chelsea have clearly stated without any ambiguity that they want to sign him, he would put in a transfer request if he wants to go to Chelsea, early days yet but that's what he'll do if he wants out. I've not seen any direct quotes from Rooney on any of this media\Jose road show
