I'd rather stick it out with Downing than get HBA! Its not that Arfa isn't a good player but everything to do with how much he would cost in both fee and wages compared to how much match time he would give us. It stinks of the 2011 summer!
Bernard has the potential to become world class and I would love for us to sign him. Ben Arfa - I'm not too fussed, I think he is a decent player and match winner - someone who can create something out of nothing. Plays with speed, skill and power. Injuries are a slight concern. But I would only sign him for the right amount. Not worth paying more than £12m for (at the very most).
I understand what you mean, but Downing isn't good enough, he shouldn't be playing every game just because of his fee and wages, he isn't good enough for first team football and he's by far our weakest link in attack atm.
£12m for me is too much, £8-10 is more what I'd be looking at, would really piss the Geordies off, I'd love it. However it's most likely bull.
In short: every player must earn their place I understand others saying that Downing would be an expensive bench warmer but if he's not prepared to leave and no one wants to buy him then what else do we do? No point in paying him off so we may as well stick him on the bench (if he deserves the place). Who knows, he may play well enough to earn a first team spot
I don't know, HBA is a great player, but very injury prone. If we could get him for £5-6m, then fine, anything above that? No ta. I don't really understand the links with wingers anyhow, we have two of our best prospects in years coming through who are both wingers. At what point does the academy become redundant? We have plenty of players who can play out wide.. Coutinho, Sturridge, Aspas, Suarez, Alberto, Downing, Borini.. That's enough, let Ibe and Sterling push to get in them spots, otherwise you might aswell get rid of them now.
Read that last bit back to yourself Gerrez That's fair enough, I just think based on last season performances alone he doesn't deserve first team football, but now he's come out and said what he's said then he deserves another chance. However if he doesn't perform this season, he HAS to go next summer.
In that Stupid FIFA game he is bloody un-droppable his stats are strong and he keeps scoring lol. Six in his first 4 games of the season, goes to show how realistic that game is I think we are stuck with him, so best to get behind him he might surprise us!
How often do we see these high potential Brazilians leave for that amount? Especially attacking players! Yes, we got Lucas for £6.7m but that was six years ago now. See, I don't get this logic. If he is injury prone to the point it is a liability / negative, then why buy him at all? I wouldn't even take him on a free! We need players that are going to be fighting fit and raring to go, not players that will spend half their time on the physio table. If we were in a stronger position with a stronger squad then I'd understand it but we're not, we need every player we sign to be able to improve the first team. They're not going to do that from the stands PS...I'm not picking on you Magic, honest

I wouldn't know, I sell him straight away every time Edit: I think there is something wrong with the Not606 system, there is only one set of quotes in the text
What really annoyed me about Downing was when he scored (against Fulham I believe) and he put his finger to his lips as he celebrated. It's almost as if that one goal was enough to prove his doubters wrong for criticising him for 2 years of ****e performances.
so here it is.... if we are genuine about improving the first team... cos thats what rodgers said.... then ben arfa is NOT that. I did not support the purchase of downing, nor adam nor carroll nor a plethora or Rafa's donkeys. If we buy ben arfa after talking about actually improving I think rodgers is done for. There is no way we'll improve beyond 6th given everton will transition this year with the likes of ben arfa. Bernard is paper talk not a real contact. it seems to me mkhitaryan was a genuine target so to go form him back to HBA shows we bascially gave up. SO why should i as a fan not give up on them if they give up like this? I hope we buy better than that gash.
He's got quality, but anything above £5-6m is much more of a risk. It's like Demba Ba, his knee could go at any point and that's why despite him scoring a large number of goals, no team has ever busted the bank for him, including Chelsea. I agree with you, but if he came here, worked well under our team doctor's then we will have a great player. (I don't want him here by the way)
Rafa Benitez looking for a re-union with Pepe Reina. Source:http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...ched-bid-Liverpool-goalkeeper-Pepe-Reina.html
Ps - City confirm the signing of Negredo, their fourth signing this transfer window, equaling to about £90m so far
Reina's get his form back and was putting in some good shifts at the end of last season, I'd rather he stayed at least one more year till the new guy gets on his feet. Hopefully that will be the case
