Have to say I agree with this! He wants out so he's making an excuse. There was none of this ****e when the deal was signed last year. And as Jacky says,he plays in the Barclays PL and played with a shirt emblazoned with VIRGIN money last season. So why only Wonga? (Believe it or not my ipad auto corrected that to Wongarena at first!) big ploy to leave the club
A tiny little link with us at the bottom of this Papiss Cisse has rocked Newcastle United by pulling out of their pre-season friendly tour to Portugal. He told the club he is unwilling to wear the sponsor and in turn promote the money lending firm, Wonga due to his religious beliefs. Newcastle will be wary of the situation and this will have no doubt alerted a number of clubs to the availability of the Toon striker. The Senegalese front man scored 13 goals in 14 appearances in his first season at St James Park, after joining in January 2012 from Bundesliga side SC Freiburg. Goals dried up the following season, however, their is no doubt that he is an important asset to the club and they will be looking to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. It has been reported that Cisse did tell Newcastle staff that he would go to Portugal, where they are due to play two friendlies, if he could wear an unbranded shirt or one with emblazoned with a charity logo. This request Newcastle have presumably denied. There have been a number of talks in the last weeks to try and resolve the issue, but no breakthrough has been reached. Fellow Muslim teammates, Moussa Sissoko and Cheick Tiote, have no problem regarding wearing the pay-day loan companies logo on their shirts. This would possibly make it harder for Newcastle chiefs to understand his point of view. Former Tottenham striker, Freddy Kanoute, whilst playing for Sevilla refused to wear a shirt promoting the gambling website 888.com. An agreement was made that Kanoute could wear an unbranded shirt. Using this precedent, I’m sure Newcastle and Cisse will believe that an agreement can be reached, however it seems that both the club and the player are standing firm. It is only really conceivable that Newcastle will accede to Cisse’s request to wear an unbranded if they have any hope at all in keeping him this year. Papiss Cisse’s chief concern with the pay-day company, Wonga, is that their business dealings have been widely criticised for being too harsh and praying on the misfortune of the neediest families. Their 4214% APR has come under particular scrutiny and has been criticised for being extortionate and making money from the poorest in society. The stance from Cisse is a sincere and admirable one and should garner support from Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Several clubs will be put on alert by this rift as to the availability of the star striker. I’m sure clubs like Tottenham, Everton, Sunderland and Fulham will all be paying attention in the next couple of weeks as this story unfolds. There is still a lot of unresolved questions involving Papiss Cisse and it will be interesting to see what Newcastle do next as they try and keep their star man at St James Park.
Would you want him fella? I wouldn't, he frustrates me and he doesn't play for us, my head would explode if he signed for us, this is despite the fact I really really wanted him before he signed for them.
He's going out (or was going out) with a lass from Edmundbyers I think so he may well want to stop up here - may be worth a punt as a third striker as long as PDC can teach him the offside rule!!
Wouldn't want Cisse at Sunderland. He's like a headless chicken, no idea of the offside rule, **** finisher, **** positional play, just ****.
It would appear so. Or maybe it is true that he is so offended by the sponsor he feels he has to move . I reckon it's more likely his agent is offended by the huge amount of money they'll miss out on if he doesn't move.
I wonder if he has his 40 grand a week wages paid into a bank account that doesn't pay interest, hypocritical bastard.
This is great. Sunderland's pre-season = Fantastic. Our pre-season = ****. This means we're gonna have a great season lol
We haven't played a propper friendly yet mate, just training ground practise matches. You'll get more wins than us this preseason, but then, we're playing proper opposition not lower league dross like we have in the past and like you lot are for your preseason. Way I see it we'll be better conditioned and already used to tough matches come the first day of the season.
I have the unfortunate joy of working under the the meccano set known as sid james circus of comedy park, and i have just seen two numpties walking along the road in their wonga t-shirts. I have to say I don't know how anyone can support a lender who charges interest at 1000's of percent to people who cant afford to pay it... MENTAL football has gone mad and now they are trying to ostracise their best striker because he doesnt believe in something any sane human being wouldnt. I hope the mags get taught a huge lesson for being the most ridiculous football club in england, europe if not the world.... what are peoples thoughts on this who is going to be their their next sponsorThe Democratic People's Republic of Korea!!!
Their next sponsor should be Durex. Protects a bunch of pricks, halts production, destroys future generations, and gives the supporters a false sense of security while they are being ****ed.
I heard they are getting Stan boardman ( chief public relations correspondent ) and Chubby brown ( P R consultant) to do half time entertainment on the pitch, focker joke included!. also to team up with Joking ear for the press conferences.
I have morals and i would like to think our club would firstly not take the money and secondly listen to fans who disapprove (althougth the FORT fiasco makes me wonder, money isnt everything and i would rather they had a more ethical sponsor. The deal isnt even that massive from wonga
So many of the people who support the club, buy the shirts, cheer for the player, are mostly from backgrounds where they would take ANY job, any, jiust to make ends meat, to feed thier families. And then to have have that support thrown back in their faces because the player has a moral issues with a sponsor. 99% of us would love to be in a position were if we didn't agrree with something at work, we could buoycoutt our duties. It is an insult to working class people. Does that answer why Cisse has been ostrich-seized? Went all Joe Kinnear there.
