Northern Soul. Anyone like it? Ever been to Wigan Casino? I never used to give it the time of day. But, hey, some of its not that bad. My favourite is Al Wilson's The Snake. Class. Love Northern Soul. Never been to Wigan Casino and never danced in a vest though. This might technically be more Motown than Northern Soul ? still cracking tho`

Love northern soul. Soul is my new found love and can't get enouth of it. Too young to have gone to wigan casino. Wearing a northern soul t shirt now Heard interviews with both these ladies recently. Smooth radio does interviews with artists most weekends. Not to mention Andy Peebles's Soul Train every Saturday night. He play loads of the stuff.
I don't know what distinguishes Northern Soul from other 60s/70s soul so **** it, I'll just post this:
Cracking tune mate. Northern soul tends to be more up tempo, mostly made up of with B sides or failed artists from the US. 99% of northern soul tunes were completely overlooked in their home country and a lot of the big NS hits only had a couple of copies ever made Meaning there was a huge sense of pride in a clubs set list as the only place you could hear and dance to certain tunes was at these specific clubs. Main Clubs were Wigan Casino, The Twisted Wheel in Manchester, The Golden Torch in Stoke and Blackpool Mecca, All with their own unique set lists. There were many other clubs as well, mainly in the north of england, they all have their own individual patches, which like a lot of the records, can be extremely rare. There's a lot of money in all things northern soul. Thanks to the digital age most songs are ownable but have them on vinyl is very very special. God I was born in the wrong decade. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image
And just to emphasise the point this is the most sought after record of the genre - worth thousands apparently. A huge thank yopu to Reedioheed for starting this thread - I absolutely love listening to these songs
Sort of along the lines I thought: obscure stuff revisited. There's an awful lot of US acts, not just soul, who did better over here than at home: Jimi Hendrix, Kraftwerk - no hang on they were German, and many more.
I believe in Northern Soul world this is called a " shuffler "

As a rule, I'm not into soul music. Its only been in the last few years where I've started to appreciate stuff like this. Mainly because of being at parties where Northern Soul is played. I was at a 50th recently and that's all they played all night. F*** I'll even play some myself on the odd occasion. Some really good songs in the replies on here. Thanks. There are few All-Dayers coming up in the next couple of months in the North of England. (Bri) Darlo might be a bit too far too travel, but there's one at Gateshead on the 3rd August. See attached link. I know a few who were at the last one, and they reckon it was heaving. http://www.richardsearling.co.uk/
Thanks mate, I know about that. Just depends if I can afford it. There's nights held in a few clubs here once a month. if I can't I'll just stick to them
