Keevin's take on yesterdays friendly in Bristol. This guy Mohsni sounds fairly decent and MacLeod gets another goal.

Bristol City 0 Rangers 1: Ally McCoist plea to sign Bilel Mohsni before they miss out

ALLY McCOIST has urged Rangers chief executive Craig Mather to snap up Bilel Mohsni before someone else does.

The stopper impressed on trial yesterday in the 1-0 friendly win over Bristol City and will fly out with Gers to their German training camp.

But McCoist is worried that Mohsni’s displays on a trial will alert other clubs to his worth.

The Ibrox boss said: “I’m aware that’s a danger. But I can only hope there are no
problems because I know the player’s keen to join us. I hope we can get something done.”

Nicky Law was at Rotherham when he discovered how good a player Mohsni could be. But it was only when the pair of them got to Rangers that he understood how good it was to have the stopper on his side.

Trialist Mohsni strolled through yesterday’s friendly at Ashton Gate as Ally McCoist’s side saw off Bristol City thanks to Lewis Macleod’s winner.

Coach Ian Durrant has christened the pony-tailed player Billy – and Law insists the Ibrox fans have only seen a glimpse of the 25-year-old’s many talents.

The midfielder said: “I was playing for Rotherham and he was at Southend the first time I came across him.

“I lost count of the number of positions he played for Southend that day. I stopped at five.

“Centre-back is his preferred option and the manager has said he wants to strengthen that area. Bilel looked really comfortable beside Emilson Cribari.

“And since he has joined us at Rangers he has been a revelation among the players with the size of his personality.

“He’s a big character, with the long hair and the outrageous flicks and tricks in training.

“He’s someone who has great confidence in his ability and the highest compliment I can pay him is that I wouldn’t like to play against him.

“I’m much happier to have him in my team and I think he wants to join Rangers on a full-time basis. It would be brilliant if we could get him to sign.

“He’s so comfortable on the ball and starts attacks from the back. You can tell the fans have really taken to him as well. If the club can tie him up it would be a great piece of business.”

Law believes Mohsni would discover what he has found to be the case – that you have to play for Rangers to understand what a big club they are.

He said: “I was an insider looking in on the club when I played at Motherwell.

“But when you see the facilities Rangers have to offer then
witness thousands of fans travelling from Scotland to watch a pre-season friendly, you know the full story.

“Rangers are a worldwide club of renown and I regard it as an honour and a privilege to play for them.”

Law was one of seven new faces on show against Bristol City and he said: “Picking the team when the season starts is going to be a hard job for the manager. I know I’ll need to play well to stay in this team.

“Now we’re off to Germany for a week to hone our fitness even further and it would be brilliant if we came back with Bilel in our squad for keeps.”

Fellow new boy Jon Daly is still looking for his first Gers goal but it was his tenacity that won this match for McCoist’s side.

The former Dundee United striker chased down a lost cause and set up sub Macleod for the winner before going off to be replaced by Lee McCulloch.

The travelling fans reacted to the goal by letting off of flares in a continental show of appreciation on a day that was more Barcelona than Bristol.

Rangers had to contend with the hottest day of the year in Bristol as temperatures soared to Mediterranean heights.

And City supporters taunted their opposite numbers with a chant of “You’re not Rangers any more” before the game.

The sunshine was the only thing that was brilliant as the first 20 minutes passed without a single chance. But there were almost 4000 Rangers supporters behind one goal and they kept up a constant barrage of song, most of which would have been mercifully incomprehensible to the locals.

A water break had both sides scampering to the touchline to take on fluids.

McCoist used the intermission to have a quick word with his players and whatever he said had the desired effect.

Lee Wallace immediately had a shot at goal that was deflected for a corner.

The re-hydrated City players retaliated by going to the other end of the park and forcing a series of shots at Cammy Bell. It was his former Kilmarnock team-mate Liam Kelly, cheekily wearing green boots, who had one attempt driven down before Bell could be tested.

The keeper was one of seven new boys, along with Mohsni, Law, Daly, Nicky Clark, Steven Smith and Richard Foster.

Mohsni looked a model of composure while Law had some intelligent promptings.

Daly offered a physical presence up front but the service he received was negligible.

Gers didn’t seriously threaten until five minutes before the break when Kyle Hutton’s curling 25-yarder brought a brilliant save out of Frank Fielding.

McCoist resisted ringing the changes at half-time and the heat stayed on the same 11 players, particularly Foster.

The former Bristol City player had an unhappy time of it on the park at Ashton Gate.

The home fans let him know about it but Foster stayed on to take his abuse while Rangers introduced MacLeod and Robbie Crawford for Law and Clark.

McCoist’s side finally broke the deadlock in 63 minutes following a dreary first hour.

Daly dispossessed the careless Louis Carey on the bye-line and played the ball to Andy Little in acres of space.

He was able to pick out Macleod and the teenager neatly slotted the ball home from close range.

If you were in a charitable mood you could’ve forgiven the players for what went on before the goal on the grounds of exhaustion.

If you were more of a cynic you’d have said it was a friendly of the sort that made the travelling supporters’ journey look even more of a personal sacrifice.

RANGERS: Bell, Foster, Cribari, Hutton, Wallace, Mohsni, Little, Law, Daly, Clark, Smith. Subs; Gallacher,
McCulloch, Black, Macleod, Faure, Gasparotto, Aird, Crawford, McCausland.

No Trev because of family and all that. I try to get along as often as I can though. I got along to about 15 games last season. I avoid the away games though to keep my carbon footprint resembling that of a pygmy.

Jig scored as Rangers beat German side Gutersloh 1-0 yesterday . Another victory and another clean sheet so that's good .

Worrying lack of goals from our new strikers throughout this preseason though .

    Bilel Mohsni Loyal <ok>

The strikers need to start firing them in but i'll give them time to gel with each other.

If not put Daly in defence and start with Andy Little

No chance, seems like he can actually play a bit. We will go for someone that can kick the ball far.

From what they say, I can see him costing us a few goals at least. A defender that uses "outrageous flicks and tricks" is an accident waiting to happen.
