Sorry, this is ridiculous, we do have first refusal, this has been common knowledge since the day he left us. There were many clauses included in the contract when we sold him:

- €14.5M paid up front, then a 2nd €14.5M payment paid a few months later.
- €1M/year deducted from Fabregas' wages and paid to Arsenal for 5 years.
- €6M paid to Arsenal if Barca win 2 Ligas and 1 CL. They have paid us €1.5M this Summer for winning 1 Liga.
- First refusal should Barca decide to sell. This means if Barca accept ANY bid for him, they must contact Arsenal and offer him to us at a flat £25M fee.
- Cesc wavered the £4M in loyalty fees owed to him for not handing in an official transfer request.
- Compensation we owed to Barca for both Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral were both waved.
- 50% sell on clause - this is definitely in the contract but the details are not entirely clear. Do we get 50% of the total fee? 50% of a profit made? 50% of anything over £25M. I reckon it is the latter of the 3, which would still put is in a relatively strong negotiating position.

At the end of the day, not a single one of these clauses mean **** if Cesc doesn't want to join Arsenal. But if he does want to join us then bringing him back should be relatively easy. Man United have far more obstacles to contend with.

Also, I'm not sure about this 'story' originating from the Mirror, I first read it on the Telegraph.

In all honesty none of us know the terms of Fabregas' sale to Barcelona or the contract that was signed.Arsenal have never made public the terms of the sale and i'm certain Barcelona & Fabregas haven't.

Arsene "Cesc has decided to stay 1 more year at Barca. Unless he's changed his mind. I don’t know. But that’s what I have been told. We have the clause in his (Fabregas') contract so we would be on alert but at the moment that’s not something we are after."

Reassuring words from Wenger. Let's hope Cesc has a stinker of a year with Barca, and then we can welcome him back in 2014. For now, our priority has to be CF's.

I agree with you except I think the DM is more important than the CF, and I think we need a CB/RB backup.

I don't think Barca is that stupid - just arsenal that is doing something smart.

Where is the apology??

However, Wenger has said the midfielder will stay with Barca for another season following which the Frenchman will seek to bring him back to the Emirates.
"At the moment, Fabregas has decided to stay one more year at Barcelona," Wenger said.
"We have the clause in the contract so we would be on alert but, at the moment, that’s not something we're after."

He's a clever man that Wenger, perhaps too clever but I shall take him in his word as he is likely to know better than most.

However the 'Cesc staying another year' quote........ a little harder to believe. He's said that before.

Couple of journo's saying we have increased our bid.

If true, which of course may not be the case, suggests one of two things.

A. Wenger is lying about what Cesc plans to do.

B. United don't listen very well.

No need to tell me which on you think it is, I already know <laugh>

Probably B. Now if they had read the quotes by Wenger they would have learned that he also said we are aware of the release clause and will activate if necessary. That is all.

He'd have to want to go to Arsenal though. Can you say with complete confidence that he would?

Also I cant see Barcelona being happy that Wengers telling the world Cesc's plans* but I suppose its a bit of pay back for Wenger after the way Barcelona were when they were after Cesc.

* If thats the case.

Even though it has quotes I would take the Metro with a pinch of salt.

Is it in the barcelona press? They are likely to know before any.
