Don't forget Hoddle was a player and manager there and did a spectacularly good job (got them into the Premier League!)
If any truth, then you have to wonder about the sanity of the Utd board to turn it down. A better player, a heap of cash and a saving of £100k+ every week. Therefore can't be true.
Must be BS. He's younger and playing to a higher standard already. As much as Rooney would be a great signing for them, they'd be directly strengthening rival more than they'd be benefiting themselves. Mata and RVP in the same side would be incredible.
I've been thinking more about this rumour and I reckon it may not actually be bullshit. Mourinho, despite winning many trophies has never really been one for playing glamorous football in my opinion. It's been a case of building strong cores and ensuring he has a good striker. Chelsea were built off of Terry and Carvahlo, with Makekele then Essien sitting in front and Drogba upfront. Inter had Samuel and Lucio, Cambiasso sitting in front then Milito upfront. At Madrid, he had Pepe/ Carvahlo/ Ramos, Khedira in front and then Ronaldo scoring for fun. Maybe Mata really isn't a Mourinho sort of player, where as Rooney will add strength and grit (and goals) which seems to be more his style.
Official statement from Chavski comfirms that they have submitted a written bid for Rooney. But, denies that any of their players have been offered in exchange.
If the two players were offered though and it was rejected, it's difficult to see them staying at Chelsea next season now that they know they're not really wanted
I've often wondered if the players are told they are being offered or if its done without their knowing. What do you reckon?
Cisse for me is on the same level as Benteke, Michu and Ba - all have proven at some stage that they can bang the goals in, but no one really knows if they can do it long term. I'd say of the four I have the most confidence in Benteke. Cisse I didn't rate at all last season though.
Twice the price though more than likely. Depends whether you're one of the fans that cares about the transfer fees or not. Cisse did it in the bundesliga and had a half decent record in Ligue1 too.
There is such a shortage of CMs in the squad. I'm sure Chelsea would jump at the chance to sell him to us. I also find it hard to believe that Chelsea would offer Mata plus money for Rooney. You make a good point, SOS, but I know I'd jump at the chance to have Mata, and wouldn't want Rooney at all.
Lets hope Arsenal offer Utd Cazorla + £10m for Rooney. That would be a great deal (for Utd and everyone except Arsenal)
Levy should be all over this Rooney thing. Throw in a £30m offer (I think would be accepted) and see what Rooney says - whats the worst that can happen? He is a top player.
..on his day. He can also be a little twat though. He would probably bag us 20 goals though i'd say, but he'd have to take a MASSIVE pay cut.
