Apparently he has withdrawn from their Portugese tour over the Wonga shirt saga. The BBC website are saying that relationships are strained between the player and management.
You just couldn't make it up could you.

    just about to post this.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23347131

Papiss Cisse has pulled out of Newcastle's pre-season tour to Portugal after refusing to wear club sponsor Wonga's logo on religious grounds.

The Senegal striker, a Muslim, told club officials he was not prepared to promote the money-lending company.

But the 28-year-old did offer to wear an unbranded shirt or one bearing a charity logo instead.

It leaves Cisse's future in doubt, with sources describing the relationship between the parties as "strained".

The Newcastle forward and his representatives have been in talks with club officials and the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) in recent days but neither the club nor their shirt sponsor have been able to find a solution.

    Papiss Cisse factfile
    •Age: 28
    •Nationality: Senegalese
•Clubs: Douanes Dakar, Metz, Freiburg & Newcastle
    •Newcastle goals: 26

Cisse's Newcastle team-mates Cheick Tiote and Moussa Sissoko are also Muslim, but have told the club they have no issue with wearing the sponsor's logo.

Cisse will continue to train on his own as he attempts to catch up on his fitness after returning later than the majority of the squad following international duty with Senegal.

Both camps are hopeful that a solution can be found, but it seems Cisse is not prepared to move on his position.

In October, high-interest pay-day lender Wonga was announced as the company to take over from Virgin Money as Newcastle's shirt sponsor from the 2013-14 season. It is thought the contract is worth around £8m a year to the club.

Speaking in June, PFA deputy chief executive Bobby Barnes told BBC Sport: "We're all aware that clubs need to generate revenue and sometimes have to use a wide range of companies.

"However, if someone feels very, very strongly that it's not compatible with their beliefs, then some sort of solution should be found."

Cisse joined the Magpies in January 2012 and has scored 26 times in all competitions.

This might not be good news. They might replace him with a striker who can find the target and knows the offside rule.

I've got to say that these legalised loan shark companies are a disgrace and should be banned, along with all these claim lawyers that are taking over all the averts...Well done Cisse for making a stance against them..

It's really a ****ty government problem this. They should be banned outright. As the Government (sorry we) own the likes of RBS why can't they do something. Charge a little bit over the main stream but 4000 frigging %.

He's doing it because in Muslim Sharia Law, they do not believe in any sort of interest on money or people that advertise it, it's forbidden.

This <ok>.. the parasites of society making money out of other peoples misery & need, we live in a pocket lining society now where every Monday morning 50% of the people wake up to rip off the other 50% in some way or the other. We used to work hard to own a BM in the old days (violin) now every ****ing souped up no-mark has one..

Utterly bizarre if true as he didn't seem to mind a year and a half playing in the Barclays Premier League

Yesterday looking on your board there was a consensus of that he was only training alone for ramadan and there was no way it's an argument over wonga. Reckon it's still true after this news? Could be you know, He is starving himself so won't have much energy for a friendly match, even though he can eat after midnight, or something like that, anyway, I'm digressing. Do you reckon there's a problem? Or have the media got the wrong end of the stick?

Well done to him if it is a religious stand, but my darker side makes me think he wants away.

As said above, he plays in the Barclay league and has happily worn a Virgin shirt.

Darren Bent has been heavily backed to join Newcastle United in the last hour and we've gone 1/4 from 4/7 on the striker to move to Tyneside. <laugh>

    That's what I mean, he's a ****ing hypocrite!

If it's ok for Tiote and Sissoko who are also muslim, then why is it not for him?
