I've set myself up as an odd-job man, never been so busy in all my life. Anyway, I'm driving an old Vauxhall Combo which has 120,000 miles on the clock. I thought that was a lot until I went on holiday recently and one of the reps was driving a van which had 250,000 miles on the clock.

****ing hell, my van is a young 'un <laugh>

I bought my first Corsa in 1997; it had 33 miles on the clock. I sent it to the breakers last year after 189k of solid service. She never once failed an MOT, or needed anything other than new tyres and one new exhaust. But then some pranny hit me side-on down a country lane in Shropshire, and that was the end. <rose>

I bought my BMW new in Aug 99. Was gonny trade it in in 2002 but didny bother. Then again in 2006 but, apart from some looking around for a deal on a new BMW or Merc, didny bother.

Then with the banking collapse and financial crisis of 2008 I was too wary (being self employed) of taking on any new sizable debt so decided, **** it, I'll run this bugger into the ground.

    It's still going <laugh>

Just under 90k on the clock and in great condition.

Another coupla years and it'll be regarded as a "classic" <laugh>

    Both.

And I'd been to the Green Man Festival at Clun Castle.

Yep, I certainly am, COYG. I was actually born and raised in Thamesmead while my dad served as a military fireman at Woolwich Barracks. My family actually originate from Edmonton, and that is where I moved to (for work reasons) when I was sixteen. Then I met my missus at the Standard on Blackhorse Road, and the rest is history.
Now I write (semi-successfully) for magazines, websites and independent publishers. The dream is to make a small fortune and then move to Normandy, but the kids attend good schools and all our capital is tied up in the house.

Where are you in North London?

I just escaped to Highams Park. Still close enough to smell the stench from the Edmonton incinerator and far enough away to not be able to hear the spud crowds on a match day :p

I worked on the sales literature for a photographer based in Highams Park - great fact, eh?

At least you're close enough to enjoy the scrapyards of Angel Road.
