    Great news.

Hodson has obvious weaknesses, and hopefully if we sign a left back Malky and Dychey can start working on those, rather than largely leaving him be because priority number one is working on his weaker foot.

But it says something that Rodgers singled out Hodson as (one of?) the only academy player(s) he gave a debut to. That Malky had no qualms about putting Hodson into the team when Williamson went, ahead of more experienced alternatives in Dale Bennett and Jordan Parkes. That he played him and persevered with him at left back this season, when recalling Mat Sadler was surely a feasible option: what's an extra £2k-3k a week over three months, when you're going to sell a player for millions in the summer? That Nigel Worthington called him up young, and had the confidence to play him at left back instead of going for the Rocky option (giving an in form 28-year-old Northern Irish League left back the opportunity of his life).

Can he displace Doyley? Only time will tell. But even for those who don't particularly rate him, having someone who can fill in at both full back slots tied down for three years is fantastic news.

Excellent news. Yup, had some poor moments but certainly came back stronger for them. MM and the staff certainly believe in him, hence 3 years. Bravo!

i think it's good news, though he did have an iffy season...but i'm sure he can only go from strength to strength and has put in some excellent performances to prove he has what it takes..

Lee made massive steps last year and there seemed to be a new step in his stride at the end of last season like he really was becoming confident, so this is great news, plus if he becomes half the player he becomes on football manager then i think we can all be happy that he got a 3 year exstention

I remember going on the FM forums a while back. A few people made the point that while the stats are incredibly accurate relative to each other (for instance, Doyley's marking and tackling is Premier League quality, his pace and stamina also respectable, but most of his other attributes are shocking) our youngsters' stats never reflect the ability that they're consistently going on to show.

The "problem" is that two or three very senior members of the FM team, including the boss, are Watford fans. The game's reputation for realism demands that there are no hints of systematically favouring a team with a proven connection to the creators.

Fair play to him. He had a bad patch but bounced back better than before.

Still think he'll struggle next season......but should gain valuable experience as he goes on.

He's already matched his goal talley quite an achievement considering the amout of games more doyley has played haha, still Doyley's goal was debatably the greatest goal ever scored

I know we joke about it but actually Doyley's goal was pretty well taken in that he reacted quickly to the ball coming over from Cowie to get a solid header in!.

Seen many a strikers for us just stand there and miss the ball in such situations (including some legends!)

As for Hodson...hopefully he'll gain the confidence to push forward and deliver as he did when first coming into the team.

I agree - but I have now become so famously anti- Doyley that I have to live up to my reputation even if really I find much to admire - and I enjoyed his goal tremendously - would love to see him score "live" as I missed that one
