Higuain 107 goals in 187 games for Real, I dont think its true but if we sell Suarez we are not gonna get a better replacement. I would go for a straight swap Suarez for Higuain and Alonso.

Higuain will never come here unless we have CL football, regardless of if Real want him or not. If they offer him in part exchange, you can bet your house that he'd decline the move.

Players always score more in Spain. You can expect half that, maybe less in the EPL.

ya wha!!! socre more in spain? see torres.... the top two teams might have super stars that whack em in but the english prem has terrible defenders and you get way more chances.

Other way around. The EPL has the better defenders, the better set up defenses and the teams from 3rd down are stronger, so conceed less.

Compare Ronaldo in England to Ronaldo in Spain.

    Torres is the exception.

Owen as well, didn't Ronaldo get 42 goals in one season for united?. I think Liverpool have a knack of making players look a bit better than they really are generally because we usually over rely on our main striker.

Another stat for Higuain is that he has 20 goals in 32 apps for Argentina but I suppose those national teams are easy to score against.

If we could get him to say yes, i'd go for this deal, I don't think we could get anybody better without CL, 40m in the bank does not equate to us getting value for money on the pitch, unless the suggestion is that we wait until we get CL football to replace Suarez?

Premier League clubs are eyeing Juventus strikers Fabio Quagliarella and Alessandro Matri.

Quagliarella is a top target for Norwich City boss Chris Hughton, says Sky Italia.

And it's emerged Liverpool are eyeing Matri.

PLEASE NO on Matri, just a lazy **** who worries more about the looks than the game. <doh>

Don't think we should be turning our noses up against the likes Higauin - he's a top class player, a player that we'd struggled to attract really. If we lose Suarez, then we need a biggish name to help us enter the season with more momentum.

However, I would prefer a straight cash deal for Suarez and invest the money in the next big thing - Luis Muriel would be a great shout.

  9. I think there is only me that is hesitant with Higauin. I'm not saying he isn't good enough, I am saying we shouldn't accept players as a make weight unless we are truly interested in signing said player and even then, we should be looking to get that player cheap since the buying club is trying to palm him off. It is a bit like a free transfer; people say "he's alright for a free" which really grates me. If you're not prepared to buy them then don't get him on a free either!!!

i agree with the sentiment. you can not tell if a guy is being pushed out and is just accepting a transition job with us like vdv.

If you go approach, buy and the guy wants to come great.....

the prem has better defenders.... sorry but i simply don't agree..... defenders in england are of a type and frankly we see in europe where that goes....... its a bit generic to compare all of spain to all of england but i have to say just take european competition and we've seen english sides schools a lot ove rthe past few years. our best defenders now are all foriegn... that also says something.

  14. I think the quality of defenders is onyl a small part of the equation. The managers and their tactics is a bigger contribution to making it harder to score. A lot of English teams set up not to concede a goal, especially the lower teams when facing the bigger sides. Also, the so-called lesser sides in the Premier League are better than the lower sides in Spain. I think strikers/forwards at Barca or Real will have higher records than players at Man Utd, Man City or Chelsea but players at lesser Spanish sides will have worse records. Maybe compared these to the strikers at lower English clubs too?

The Torres example is a little inaccurate IMO. A.Madrid weren't a great side when Fernando was there, the money they got from us help them to build a side that got into the CL. Plus he was younger and had a lot of expectation as a young captain too. At Liverpool, the pressure wasn't as high so he was able to relax in a new team that was better and created more chances.

this is very true but england = free for all... spain its tactical and frnakly every side playing the top 2 put ten men back..... I honestly think games like west ham at anfield are few and far between in england. English teams go forward in a variety of ways.... Stoke are one type, fulham away another....

Torres is a complex issue, one of talent, partnership, being ready to play etc etc..... Gerrard had a huge impact on him IMO.

My view is you have an awful lot of sides who simply cannot defend like qpr or anyone coming up to go down. but then you've guys like hughes who'll make stoke unable to defend and frnakly while games are more one sided in spain we get a lot of back and forth games.
