Dan, I think you might be heading for bipolar disorder. Must admit, this Banega news has quite taken me by surprise.
Where would Banega slot into the team? Is he one of the three behind the striker? Or more of a Masquerano of which we've got plenty!
Sounds good! I guess we just have to wait for the deal to look certain, fall through and then be completed a few days later
He can play anywhere in the midfield really but his passing is pretty phenomenal at times and he'd be more effective in that regard in a more advanced midfield position.
You have to wonder how long we'll be able to hang onto this guy, and I don't think it'll be very long, but considering what a bargain it is, we'll probably double our money.
Would it be unnecessary to question whether we'd be anywhere near being in for this type of player under NA? I'm not being provocative, but it's an interesting-ish thought. I don't think we would, which again would justify Nicola's foresight. Mind you, I think we're all bored of that question now, and we've not signed the bloke. Yet. Sorry, tend to babble when excited!
I think most signings will come if the deal is right for them. But, I think on this occasion, Pochettino knows Banega on a personal level from their time at Newell's Old Boys when Banega was in the academy at the time. His personal knowledge of Banega may persuade him to come.
Here's hoping beyond hope. I don't think it's an exaggeration to suggest that with Banega/Wanyama/Schneiderlin we'd potentially have one of the best midfields in the league.......
This is on Banega's Wikipedia page.......yes I know, I know...... Southampton[edit] On the 15th July 2013 an agreement was reached with Southampton for the transfer of Banega for a fee of €14million. He will wear the number 11 shirt.
Isn't it just.......I don't think we've had a dubious/nonsensical/premature/fake Wiki entry on one of the Saint ? threads yet though......
