I wouldn't have thought there was a great deal of demand for chains other than for lavatories and bicycles.

Surely, you can think of another use with your vast experience of fluffy handcuffs.

That's great Fran. Always better to work with a smile and have a laugh. Much better than the dull grunt that most people offer. I like the lady in my local dept. store; she always manages to tell me something suits me really well without the slightest hint of a snigger!!

Please tell us all which one so that I can write to the manager and complain about the over familiar and disrespectful staff.

I do this all the time and usually means I end up with lots of free store vouchers which I can then give as birthday presents.

I used to work with a mental Leeds fan who hated everything Man U. On his last day with us, I went to Tescos and bought him a leaving cake.

A Man U birthday one with stickers and pictures all over it. The fat git still ate most of it though.

    It's just larks.

As long as people keep it clean it's ok by me.

In some respects, I'd have more "respect" for a Pompey fan if they didn't work at Staplewood, jumped the fence and done that. Least shows some bottle and daring-do.

But if you are employed to do a job, you do it professionally.

If they were stupid enough to video doing this, I suspect their employer (I presume they are sub-contractors) maybe concerned at what other things they've done on site, which may mean Saints withholding payment to that company (or via the main contractor)

Bet Saints have had a strong word with contractor concerned, asked for removal of shirt (if practicable) and removal from the job of the offending people. Nothing more. My bet...the shirt was never sealed in the wall in the first place.

It should be part of the contract , "do you employ Skates". If they're caught lying the company faces severe penalties.

The other thing is as soon as they showed on the first day it would have been obvious they were Skates. A quick finger count would have given them away, the smell of fish, the stupid tattoos and the lack of English.

Oh yes. I have a little pile of books by my bedside ready for my holiday in France next month, so it would probably be better to find someone more deserving than me as I' feel I cheated someone out of this gift with a pile of books all ready to go.

Very kind of you though ;)

Sorry. You misunderstood me I simply asked do you read?

I never give anyone anything as I am renowned for my meanness and it has been said that Dickens modelled Scrooge on my behaviour.

I was going to suggest that for a really great read you get a copy of "Chronicle of a Death Foretold" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez it is a book I read every year when I go on holiday.

You can find a little more about it here:

Interesting looking book. I read the plot, which gives a little spoiler, but why do you read it every year?

I virtually never read books again apart from the classics. Read 'em, pass 'em on.

Unfortunately I have a little obsession about seeing books on a book shelf, hence my comment yesterday about re-organising the new book shelf. I loan them out, but there is something about a room full of books that gives me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I know, I need to get a kindle, but I just can't bring myself to do that yet.

There are certain books that are so superbly written that you can read them again and again and each time you get something fresh from them. I would include Catch 22 in that category.

With Chronicle of a Death Foretold you know the victim and you know the perpetrators from early on as does every one else and despite there being lots of opportunities to prevent the crime nobody steps in to do so. It is a beautifully written and crafted book and can be read in about 2 hours.

This is a classic and with you being such a very classy well educated woman you would enjoy it very much.

    If you like books that are about social injustice and are not only provocative but challenge mass opinion then I can recommend;

The Other Hand by Chris Cleave.

It will leave you very angry and heartbroken and will change your attitude towards political asylum.

This is a book I think should be compulsory reading for every racial bigot, UKIP party supporter and Tory backbencher (sorry just realised they are all one and the same thing).
