Actually, he says that Chelsea were interested in Shaw to possibly replace Bertrand but now he has signed the 5 year deal it won't happen.

 

I was going off of SaintsWeb discussions earlier this week, serves me right.

 

Still don't get the Banega love. Big risk, IMO. I would take him if the price is good, but I wouldn't take it for granted that he's going to be awesome. He has the potential to take the club to the next level, but it's not a sure thing. Gaston Ramirez has the same upside. Give him two years and he might be a better player than Banega.

I also don't think it would be a coup for the club as much as a reflection that Banega isn't that wanted. I haven't heard anyone else coming in for him.

 

How many of our potential targets really would be sure things..? And nobody other than Cardiff went in for Wanyama, and I hadn't heard of anyone else going in for Lovren. Think those concerns can be applied to everybody we'd sign. The "sure things" go to top clubs.

 

Thing is, how much real competition is there for players. How many clubs really want to sign a particular player who, say Liverpool might be after, for example. We are told that Bayern pipped ManU to signing a player. Did they really..? Were ManU negotiators banging on the door shouting don't sign, don't sign. [?] I doubt it.

 

Dodgy example! Thiago was in negotiations (at least to the point of having offers) from several teams, a lot of deals will be "one club is in negotiations while lots of others are interested" but in the case of top players like Thiago, several teams actually make offers. Something tells me he had his eye on Bayern and Pep all along though.

 

We've all been there! Well actually, you cyber kids probably didn't need the brown paper bag stuff!

 

Banega is a midfielder with international prestige, and not for a crummy outfit like England - for frickin' Argentina boys and girls! Anyone questioning his signing (if indeed he does) needs to have a quiet word with themselves.

Banega would be brilliant.

Seconded. To think people would actually think twice about signing him... If I had the powers to do it, he'd be holding the shirt and scribbling his name on the dotted line in no time.

 

He has been pretty awesome in La Liga, and he certainly would not get pushed around in the Prem. Nor do I think that he and Gaston would be unable to work together. But, hey, if Gaston and he both demonstrate that they are world-class attacking mids and we have to choose between them, there are worse dilemmas.

The guy who sent me the article (a big Valencia fan) reckons Banega's as good as gone now. Let's just hope MP can continue his manipulation!!
