Following a discussion on the Binner board a few days ago I would like you guys to come up with as many players from between 1970 to the present day who have been awarded FULL international caps (while playing for your team). Not u18, u21 etc - Any country. I do not intend to turn this into a discussion type of thread or any kind of competition between our 2 clubs - just for interest, and maybe some surprises along the way as we go down memory lane. If you can give me the name, country and approx year (in that order) I have posted this on the Binner board too along with a few other smaller PL teams and bigger Championship teams. I think it could be interesting to see just how many international players both teams have had over the years and am willing to bet it's well over 100 between us (Norwich & Ipswich).
Mark Bowen - Wales Jeremy Goss - Wales Andy Townsend - R of I Rob Green - England (1 cap while at Nch) Dave Watson - England Chris Woods - England Craig Bellamy - Wales Iwan Roberts - Wales Phil Mulryne - N Ireland Carl Robinson - Wales That's got to be a few caps
Andrew crofts Wales Simeon Jackson Canada Russell Martin Scotland Sammy clingan n.Ireland Yousef safri Morocco
Phil Boyer - England (I think he won 1 cap while with Norwich) David Philips - Wales - 1994 Bryan Gunn - Scotland ?
Malcolm Allen - Wales - 1990 Gary Doherty - Rep of Ireland - 2005 Robert Fleck - Scotland - 1991 Thomas Helveg - Denmark - 2005 Keith O'Neill - Rep of Ireland - 1998
We will be checking these out ;-) We've got 54 internationals, 11 England. Keep up lads... A good place to start will be a list of Norwich players on Wikipedia and then we'll need dates of appearances for club - dates of appearances for country to make sure they overlap. For example I can't find any evidence that Carlos Edwards has turned out for Trinidad since he's been at Town so he's not on the list
Well we'll see what you come up with. If you get anywhere close to 50 we'll start to verify ;-) Woods, Watson, Green and Boyer are your England internationals with a handful of caps between them.
Wynton Rufer - signed a contract, but was refused a work permit. This is wasting some time I don't have! How about: Adrian Coote - N.I. 99/00 'ish Kevin Reeves - Eng. 79/80 Paul McVeigh - N.I. 99/04 Efan Ekoku - Nig. 2004 Ted McDougall - Scot. 1975 Gary Holt - Scot. 2002 Jimmy Hill - N.I. 1960!
Here are a few names you may have forgotten about (number of caps in brackets): Mark Barham - England (2) 1983 Malky Mackay - Scotland (3) 2004 David Williams - Wales (5) 1986-87 Aage Hareide - Norway (4) 1983 John Devine - Eire (5) 1983-85
I was hoping Steen Nedergaard could be added to this, but alas according to Wikipedia, he never won an International Cap. Love that guy...
