All wrong lads. Paschendale probably had a higher death count, but not in a single day. Kiwi warmest, but not hot. To be honest I was stunned when I heard about this battle, once you know about it you will never forget it, and dominate the pub quiz for years to come. I am deeply impressed that no one has resorted to Wiki yet....
Right war, we're getting close......honestly Sooper, I am a history graduate and a history addict and had never heard of this battle until I happened to catch a documentary a couple of years ago.
No, I thought that was Bosworth Field. It was an earlier battle, armies were led by Henry VI and Edward IV. I notice the hornets are buzzing around.....
Bravo, 28,000 dead in one day, many drowned in a stream somehow. 20,000 on the first day of the Somme. It included Wales and I bet a few Scottish and Irish mercenaries turned up, so I'm counting that as British Cologne, apologies if you feel misled.
Never heard of Towton either, the final battle was Stoke Field where there was a policy of 'no quarter', so all the losers were slaughtered...
The sight of what would cause relief for Port Authorities, consternation for a Formula 1 driver, and either joy or frustration for an American footballer (depending on what side they are playing for) ?
Doesn't a yellow flag in a port...mean plague/quarantine Yellow flag in F! means danger ahead An a yellow flag rthrown in in US football is a penalty (for or against) So fits 2 qnd 3 but not 1...what other flag could it be... Chequered...would have to google that tho
Close enough Beth a completely yellow flag on a ship means freed from quarantine in modern shipping (An earlier times it was reversed). Modern shipping uses yellow in combination with another colour to indicate contagion - normally black as in the so called flag of Lima, and now changes this to a yellow one to indicate all clear. Over to you !
Gandhi was a news reporter in South Africa during the Boer War - could it be Spion Kop where there was a battle involving a Liverpool regiment - from which the club gets the name.
Close enough to hand over....but not quite right ....Ghandi was a stretcher bearer at the Battle of Spion Kop 9for the Indian Ambulence Service)...Winston Churchill was the news reporter, as was Louis Botha, future South African Prime Minister and leader of the Boer forces
Which is the biggest football stadium in Europe which is open to the elements ie. with no roof over the stands ? 60,000 who need umbrellas !
Straight up...thought Nou Camp...but couldn't see the twist... From my recollection and google pictures ...only one small roof..am I wrong...does that small bit count in your eyes
