    "Maradona".

    I prefer Lee Trundle.

    Gerd Muller.

If I had to pick a Welshman - John Charles. Perfect target man and he could cover centre-back. We'd be a lot more solid/dangerous at set pieces....and he was a Jack bastard :)

Ex- swansea = Trevor Ford....goal machine.

John Charles would be the first name on any "best of" teams that I would select. His ability to defend and attack were quite unique. Top player;top man and widely respected for his sportsmanship.

I used to love watching Platini when I was a kid - just thought he was perfection on the field.

Ronaldinho in his first 2-3 seasons at Barca was the best player in the world and always played the pass instead of the shot if he could. And he was always smiling.
His free kick goal - under the wall and in was a mix of techinique, accuracy and total confidence. Class.

Charles would be my Welsh player choice, when I've met Italians and we've talked football his name always come up. Still a legend in Turin in particular. The gentle giant.

Nedved was a great shout earlier and Van Basten up top would do nicely!

Ex-Swan choice would be my childhood hero Roger Freestone.

That's so funny, when he was a youngster playing with the Swans he would pass into the middle of no-where or run into the middle of no-where like a headless chicken. Then when he went to Italy those same passes were for players to run onto, the same runs were into open spaces to receive the ball, control and score. Italy's top scorer in the World Cup and World record transfer fee. He was far too good for Swansea, they had no idea what the hell he was doing.

If you can get hold of his autobiography Jersey its one of the best books i have read, very colourful off the pitch as well as on it, when asked by the press if he had played with Pele his reply was " no Pele played with me" but one of his more famous quotes was "I am Chinaglia. If I shoot from a place, it's because Chinaglia can score from there." <laugh>

With those two, Lauds, we'd fly into the top 6 and maybe even challenge for the title. Ivor creating visions of beauty all over the pitch, pausing occasionally while he banged in another 30 yarder (how he would have LOVED today's light footballs) and Big John, what can I say....... Equally brilliant at centre back or centre forward, I doubt we'd ever concede another set piece again. And the options he would give us. If he was playing at the back and we did fall a goal behind, just send him up front. Only a matter of time.......

For people who never had the great good fortune to see these two play, yes they WERE that good. Value in today's transfer market? Well, you could start the bidding at £50 million.......... each!!

Just occurred to me and then I saw your post that the obvious inclusion is Laudrup.

    "Ivor creating visions of beauty".

You've just given me goosebumps,Ivor. The great man himself was a "vision of beauty",a joy to behold.

As for the Gentle Giant,I do believe he still holds the goalscoring record for the old 2nd Division - 42 goals in 42 games - and he was playing at centre half!!!

    I wouldn't take £50,000,000.00 for either of them,unless as a holding deposit.
