I suspect it's a question of priorities. After strengthening defence and beefing up midfield, we really need another striker. Mauricio probably thinks another GK is a luxury as the opposition won't get near him<whistle>

Boruc has two year deal? That's two years to make his mind up on Paulo. Kelv is still around for back up. I imagine a lot will depend on how Pochettino views Artur's 'dizzy spells'

Davis did well coming on for Boruc, didn't he? Liked the good reception he got...a whole stadium gasping would have been disconcerting.

Boruc could potentially play for longer than 2 years. If we progress as intended then I can't see Gazza being good enough to start here. I still think he needs games to have the best chance of improving and should be sent out on loan.

The question is if we have bid for Osvaldo and Damiao does that mean we are after 2 strikers? Or are we just hoping for one of the two?

Can't quite see us spending 40m on strikers, so I would imagine that it would be one of the two.

Just as Osvaldo is keeping his options open so are we. I do feel Cortese needs to make the most of the current climate(weather) in a hope to attract these players from Southern Europe. Nothing like Southampton common on a summers day!

Just a thought - and not a rumour as such but would anyone else quite fancy John Guidetti if we could get him at the right price?

Man City look to be investing in a couple of strikers and already have Aguero and Dzeko.

Powerful, pacy, 21 years old, 6 ft 1, 20 goals in 23 games in the Dutch league on loan last season. He seems to fit the bill and could turn into a star.

Will probably go on loan somewhere in the premiership this season and could easily turn out to be this years lukaku but I wouldn't mind testing Man City's new management with a proper bid for him.

I'd be happy with him, think I mentioned him before.

He was actually on loan in the '11/'12 season; he spent this past season in their development squad, having made the mistake of being too good to send on loan, but not good enough to ever see the pitch for City. I'd definitely consider a loan for him, though I'd prefer to buy a player if possible.

Yes. I'd prefer to buy him as a long term replacement for Lambert and someone who could go straight in as well. Don't see the benefit of a loan unless we are still looking for someone towards the end of the window.

Just look at the Lukaku situation. Thanks partly down to him, WBA had a great year last year. The fans, presumably, are going to want something fairly similar again this season, maybe the board too. If they're sitting around 14th place dome Xmas, with the bottom three not too far away, then I wouldn't be surprised if a few WBA fans started voicing some disapproval during matches.

But yet, pre Lukaku, something like 14th would have no doubt been perfectly acceptable. I cannot, cannot see Anelka replicating the impact which Lukaku had, and I cannot see WBA finishing in the top 8 again.

The loan has benefitted Lukaku, and it's benefitted Chelsea, but it no longer benefits WBA. That is a huge hole for WBA to fill now.

Ronaldo could be signing for Everton. Not the Real Madrid forward, but Porto defender. The 27-year-old will cost £5m with Newcastle interested too. (Sunday Express)

Express just making **** up now to suit themselves, Porto's defender isn't even called Ronaldo, he's Rolando

John Alberto Fernando Andres Luigi Olof Guidetti. Hell of a name. Yeah, I'd be happy with him.

Anyone reckon we should sign an American player? Sunderland seem to be getting a lot of attention in the US after signing Altidore, and I think Fulham are disproportionately popular over there. Clint Dempsey is available...just saying.

A fit Guidetti is hot property, but he was, and perhaps still is, suffering from a debilitating viral illness which prevented him from playing for the whole of last season and presumably accounted for his not going out on loan either (though had he been fit he may well have been in Mancini's squad). I think he played one game for Man City development squad around Christmas, and that was it. I don't know whether he is now over it, or whether it is still a problem, but that is why he has "disappeared" since his loan spell in Holland. <ok>

Yeah he spent a lot of time in Kenya as a kid and goes back there regularly to do charity stuff, which is apparently where he picked up this mystery illness. Supposedly he's over it now so, much as I'd like us to sign him, I'd expect him to feature for City next season.

Would be shocked if we don't get one. The quality of that striker will have a massive bearing on how much we progress this season.
