Summer Jumps action chaps and chappeses. Stratford 5.20 Anton Dolin 6/5 The Champ backed this like it was the certainty it was last time and I'm reinvesting the stake again tomorrow. Southwell 1.40 Grandad's Horse probably a shade of odds on I have a real soft spot for this horse and I really want to see him thrive now he finally runs over a proper trip. Longsdon bought this to jump fences and I think he'll excel this Summer chasing but most likely struggle under an inflated mark in the Winter. I'll most likely double those up as well. EDIT: Looked in more depth and AP's mount is certainly capable of winning. No bet. Southwell 3.10 Ben Cee Pee M Stick's got connection with this horse but it has moved stables so runs for Ellison for the first time tomorrow. Ground will be spot on. Trip is fine. It'll be interesting if there's money about but at 11/4 it seems a fair bet. A change of stable often provesa great way of freshening up a horse.
HILLTIME 4.10 Southwell 20-1 has his first run for nearly six years tomorrow. Obviously it will be a monumental feat of training to bring him back with a win. The handicapper has leant a hand though by dropping him the best part of two stone. He was pretty decent when a seven year old, lets see how much ability he retains. Good luck to connections.
It's well worth keeping an eye on the market for the Southwell 5.10 today as Charlie Brooks has a rare and interesting runner. HAZEL BROOK currently 11-1 is out of a lightly raced dam who was a comfortable winner of a bumper herself. By High Chapparal she could easily be good enough to win this on her debut. If she is fancied then no doubt the betting exchanges will tell us all we need to know.
Good shout in the sprint yesterday Bob, winner won that with authority and I didn't see any hard luck stories in behind. I looked at the form of Hilltime Stick and it seems he was a bit useful back in 2007 but I can't believe they are trying to bring the beast back after 6 years. Any idea why the long absence? It has been entered a couple of times in the last few weeks but kept getting pulled out. Had a quick look at today's racing and I only really fancy one - Castlemorris King 5/2 in the 3:20 at Stratford. I'm quite surprised 5/2 is available and would encourage anyone to have a dabble at that price.
Cant find out much about him drever. He isn't even listed on the trainers website. Its asking a lot for him to have retained all his ability but if he has he is very well in.
Cheers Stick. Just had another look through the form of Hilltime and some of the names of horses it raced against bring back memories: Monticelli, Mange Tout, Orpen Wide, Cream Cracker and Buena Vista to name just a few. Made me a little nostalgic. They probably strike a chord with me because I started paying attention to racing from around 2005. I remember a mate and I would go to the bookies and stand there watching the racing, no matter how bad, all bleeding afternoon if we had a day off. That was back when I was only happy to spend £2 a race but when you are backing something in every race it adds up lol!! Christ, I would still say racing was a cheaper hobby back then!! Sod it, probably throwing my money away but I'm gonna go back to the good old days and have a quid eway on Hilltime, come on you beauty!!
Oh man I wanna go back to 2005... Living with parents, meals cooked, washing done and ironing done, no bills. All I had to worry about was convincing some munter from one of the local nightclubs that she wouldn't regret it in the morning lol!! I hate growing up
