I wonder how many other teams believe they're on the path to success and it's only a matter of time before their lofty ambitions become reality. Do Fulham fans believe they're just years away from playing in the Champions League? Do Aston Villa fans think that given a couple of seasons, they'll be spoken of in the same breath as Manchester United and Chelsea? Are all of us midtable teams just deluding ourselves that the way they're doing it is the right way and other teams are going to be left behind, and that the reality is that we're just going to be plugging midtable while the big teams get bigger? What truly sets us apart from the other sides in our general position - sure, we have a chairman who preaches ambition a lot, but how do you quantify that - is it making big signings? Teams like Sunderland and Swansea are shelling out eight-figure transfer fees, so what makes us the future big boys and not them?
When it comes to the information highway we get 1/10. The U21's apparently beat Middlesborough U21's 3 - 0 today at their place. How do I know? 2 tweets bt Ryan Seager and Matt Targett, no idea who scored. The Under 16's it was tweeted won 6 - 0 where it was and who scored? No idea, there doesn't appear to be any sources of information.
The OS can be a bit slow...I do think they could cover the youngsters a bit more (especially in the closed season).
In one sentence: Southampton are the Lyon of England; a disregarded provincial club who started to run themselves as a "moneyball" type business, turning themselves into giantslayers. Vin
One thing to take note of, and that is that there have been many complimentary remarks made about Saints from Celtic fans too. I was also actually surprised by how many Celtic fans wished VW and Saints well, too.
As far as I know, Pompey are the bigger of two, and if your club has a bad season and the other club has a good season, you may end up swapping greatness.
Greatness isn't down to league position. It's down to fanbase, history, tradition, fame, having a sexy kit, etc. And who's the other?
Well, that's your lot out of the running then. The other club is Fleetwood the Great. That's an interesting football club name, isn't it..?
Fleetwood, from what I can remember reading about them, seem a good club which is well run and has lots of potential but they don't have the same greatness and history and tradition as Portsmouth.
No of course not, and I have been doing loads of leg pulling all along. You seem to be very serious this evening. Not a in sight.
Have a go. Say something like... I really enjoy the everyday input by Lord Duckhunter..! [obviously I can't put a smiley there to induce you to try].
I know. That was a tall order. Good attempt though. And at least you used a smiley. even if it was a frowny.
