You could always tell he was limited though. Slow, not a good passer and pretty easy to get past.

Banega apart from Xavi and Iniesta is the best playmaker in La Liga. If he signs he is as good as any midfielder in the division, better than Cazorla and a more complete midfielder than Silva.

I've seen very little of him, so cannot comment. But that is very high praise of the guy. Silva and Cazorla are hardly poor players...

He was bailed out several times, his positioning sense was terrible, he just wasn't crap in the air and didn't let people dribble through him too often. Very limited player, was clearly bad enough that Palace sent him home from his loan early.

Xabi Alonso and Ozil are better than him IMO. He's certainly the best playmaker outside of the top two in La Liga though. What sets him apart from most playmakers is his ability to tackle a player every now and then which most playmakers usually shy away from.

Outside the top two there is a surprising lack of good playmakers. I can only really think of Rakitic, Arda and Benat.

Ok, let's not go for any more Croats, please ;)

Just joking, a great player. I don't watch Sevilla that much, but in the national team he is often played out of position. He's not very pacey, but has superb tehnique, crossing and passing.

I've just read Norwich bought Leroy Fer from Twente, wasn't Everton after that guy last summer? Seems like a great signing. And regarding Norwich, i can't believe they managed to buy Nathan Redmond for just 2.5 mil, it's an apsolute bargain. Here we are needing a pacey winger, and we missed on him!

We've been constantly linked with him since the window opened. Also Gaston was asked about him and appeared very coy in his answer (although I can't remember what he actually said).

I find it strange that we have been chasing Hooper for the past couple of years and yet it now appears he is up for grabs at a cut price compared with what we were prepared to offer.
With QPR heading the chase I am confused in that here is a good quality striker, CL experience, on verge of international call up, English and on offer at a very good price
Why haven't we snapped him up as well as chasing very expensive international superstars?

We have a new manager and style...we've moved on and perhaps he doesn't match anymore.

Southampton have reportedly offered Roma £17m for striker Pablo Osvaldo.

Osvaldo has been a reported target for Manchester City, but the Saints have launched the potentially record-breaking bid, according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio.

However, the source claims that the 27-year-old is not keen on making the switch from the Italian captial to the south coast side, after learning of the interest from City.

The Saints' current transfer-record stands at £12m following Gaston Ramirez's move to St. Mary's last summer.

What is not to like about Southampton!! It has docks, sunshine (temporarily) and nearby donkeys...it is practically Barcelona.

France beat Uruguay u20s on penalties after a 0.0 draw. So if Bueno is a serious target we should hear something soon.

Had a dream last night that I thought I heard we had sold Schneiderlin, but luckily I misheard and we had actually bought Schmeichal (Jnr). Not a priority I know, but do you think we may need another keeper or is everyone happy with Boruc et al.

I'm happy with Boruc. Only question is is Gazza or Cropper his successor. If MP doesn't rtae either then we need to bring one in.
