Marseille manager Elie Baup has confirmed that the French giants have reached an agreement with Joey Barton over a return to Ligue 1.

Barton spent last season on loan with Marseille from Queens Park Rangers, but is still under contract at Loftus Road.

Baup revealed that after agreeing personal terms with the midfielder Marseille will now talk to QPR, with the hope of securing the 30-year-old on a permanent deal.

He told reporters: "There is an agreement between the club and himself but he belongs to Queens Park Rangers."

Barton's £70,000 a week deal in West London still has two years left to run, with both parties still seeking an early resolution to that contract.

He can leave any time without a pay off. Id give a date of Aug 1st and tell him hes not going anywhere and can play for the reserves if he wont accept a mutual cancellation with no pay off.

He deserves F**ck all. I hope TF plays hardball with him, especially after all that b*llocks he tweeted about having enough money, money not important, my heart is Marseille.

Obviously I would love him to go with no pay off, but parking him in the stiffs for the rest of his contract will cost us over £7m. This is business not personal, there is a figure (no idea what it is) that is worth us paying to see him go.

Easyjet are offering single flights to Marseille for £109 next week. £50 cab at each end. Add on a beer at £5. Throw in speedy boarding and some luggage allowance. I reckon a grand should be an appropriate settlement, assuming we pay for his family as well as well.

How much will it cost to pay him off, £3.5m? Then Boswanka will want a payoff, thats another £3m. so will everyone else so it will work out more expensive to pay him off than to set an example.

Personnally i would just stick him in the stiffs (as a unused sub every game ), and see how long it takes to blow his top thereby giving the club a realistic chance of "Dismissing" him for breach of contract.
I would give it about 5 games before this occurs thus only costing the club £350-425,000, also remember Marseille will only wait until the end of the transfer window before buying someone else so that puts pressure on Barton to leave for nothing to make sure of actually getting his "dream" move.<party>

am i missing something or doesn't this "Barton agrees terms with Marseille" mean that OM and QPR are just discussing JB's transfer fee. if we say they can get him for £100 then it's a deal, no need for any payoff?

Would seem that way, wouldn't it?

Still, Flyer likes to have a little rant about how he/she would deal with the Barton situation, even if it's completely disastrous approach. What could be worse than having a festering sore such as Barton hanging round the club for the next two years?
