    Kick off, throw in, have a little scrimmage,
    Keep it low, a splendid rush, bravo, win or die;

    On the ball, City, never mind the danger,
    Steady on, now's your chance,
    Hurrah! We've scored a goal.

    The last 3 lines are a chorus, often sung on their own. "City" refers to the team, not the city of Norwich. <ok>

    O/T but while we are on the subject of our famous song, how far back does "a splendid rush" take us? When did we last witness a "rush" apart from team mates mobbing a goal scorer? If someone were to write a modern version reflecting changes in the game, I think "a fast counter" would be a good fit. "A splendid rush" conjures up the very earliest amateur days when the main tactic involved everyone grouped in echelon around the man in possession and charging en masse at the opponent's goal. If the guy with the ball couldn't control it, it was carried forward anyway by the massed ranks around him. Kick and rush without the kick! <ok>

    Aftrap, ingooi, een beetje vechten,
    Keep it low, een prachtige aanval, bravo, alles of niets;

    Naar voren, City, wees niet bang,
    Rustig aan, grijp je kans,
    Hoera, we hebben gescoord.

    I need to know in what way you mean keep it low, the context cause it translates into four different things in Dutch all with different meaning.

    While you're here, Cove, do you have any good recipes for traditional Dutch pancakes? <laugh> :emoticon-0105-wink:

    "Keep it low" = "keep it on the ground" i.e. pass the ball to feet not up in the air. <ok>

    Then its:

    Aftrap, ingooi, een beetje vechten,
    Hou de bal laag, een prachtige aanval, bravo, alles of niets;

    Naar voren, City, wees niet bang,
    Rustig aan, grijp je kans,
    Hoera, we hebben gescoord.

    When cove has dealt with "keep it low", can someone tweet the translation to McNally. He'll love it -- and he'll mention it to Leroy Fer just as his pen is poised over the contract! <ok>

    Ask him if they need a journo to do some Dutch interviews, still looking for a job in England.
