I cant believe this can come off but if it does I'd be impressed. Am I being boring thinking its still a fair wegde for a 30 year old? Was thinking this man could be dangerous in behind RVW as main striker if we had more quality in midfield............
he's not quick, so his game won't be too affected by getting old. the fee does worry me a little though, not because he isn't worth it but because he's a 30 year old who has only ever played in italy.
Can anyone explain why we have any more reason to believe this at the moment than there was to believe we might sign Biglia in January? When there is a statement from him, or his club, or our club, confirming negotiations then I will take it seriously. I am sure I saw him linked to another club, I think Sunderland, just a few days ago. This looks to me like nothing more than imagination stirred by his agent kite flying. @superman Zola was 30 when Chelsea signed him, and had never played outside Italy. Can't remember whether the fee was comparable, but Chelsea certainly got value for their outlay. According to transfermarkt FQ is right footed, not left footed, and underwent cruciate ligament surgery two years ago.
Just had a good giggle trying to pronounce some of these names we have been linked to with a strong Norfolk accent.
I just wish we would get the Fer signing completed. That will be another player we can use to help entice others in with!
As good a player as quagiarella is I would be worried about spending this amount of money on a 30year old, who could potentially flop. Yes you could argue that he may kick the team forward into the top ten in the 2-3years that he might spend here. But we can't seriously consider ourselves as a team than can throw 6m+ at signing a player with little to no chance of having any resale value, we can't afford to do it! I'm sceptical that Houghton would even target him for this reason let alone Mcnally
We need a striker, end of. If Celtic are playing hard to get and Hooper is not showing any signs of interest then we have to have a back up plan. I would not like to go into the season with what we have got. If RVW gets crocked we are up **** creak, big style. Toivonen seems to have not been able to agree personal terms and even though there is plenty of time left these things can take time to sort out.
We don't know the whole picture though, there are probably negotiations going on that we don't know about!, we just get drip fed from the media.
Like what he says, can't see this happening. But I guess all transfers are a gamble, what if the wolf flops we could easily lose £4M in 1-2 years. (I'm sure he won't) but the other side is what if he ignites us (Quagi) and the big boys come snifffing at 31 (in a year) he may still have 3-4 years top football in him and the 8th figure might come out! Just give us Fer for the weekend Mr M an I'll celebrate with several singha's followed by a number of ales in the tombland area! (those of suspitious nature would be right, I will be having this celebration Fer or no Fer but thats not the point, I'll smile more if its done!) Bah! Bah!
You may be right to be sceptical whether the rumour is true given those sums, but if there IS actually substance in it there is no cause for you to worry: it won't happen if we can't afford it, and if it does happen it just means we CAN afford it. As of now, I am sceptical full stop.
did i say left foot? apologies. his RIGHT foot is becham-esque (got it right in the end!) good comparison with zola. he was indeed priced comparatively at that age. he went on to play for what, another 6-7 years too. as i say, i've loved watching this guy in the past so i'm extremely biased and would be made up to see him sign, regardless of age, price or anything you can think of! it's a bloody ambitious attempt, that's for sure.
