Great news . No longer will my tax dollar be used to perpetuate the archaic dogma of religious junta and it's continued pursuance of keeping it's followers stuck in the dark ages .

Say what you like about the proddies ....least they had an enlightenment .

They had an enlightenment in Catholic countries too, you know.

Also, without going off on one, this idea of RC schools as a sort of theist machine versus "non denominational" schools does my nut in.

My kids go to ND schools - well, they're not ND schools, they're protestant schools but I've done this rant before.

They have more contact with the meenister than I ever had with clergy at RC primary.

They are taught ACTUAL creationism (which RC schools do not - even seminaries teach evolution as fact)

My kids attend the kirk every so often, not the Episcopalean church, not the Unitarian, Baptist, Mormon church or a synagogue or a mosque much less a chapel.

A ****ing smelly witch-burning creationist backwards kirk.

Boils my ****ing piss.

 

Schools should be for education

Religion should be taught in churches or in the home .

Which is why I sent them to a "non-denominational" school.

I stupidly thought they would get a secular education there.

I'm not entirely sure what your comment is meant to mean in context. It would be too easy to assume that your utter stupidity has meant that I was looking for some sort of multi-faceted Christian schooling rather than a schooling where religion is absent (the ideal) but I'm struggling to see how in any way you think you are giving me (a member of the Humanist Society) a "lesson".

I don't think I was giving you a lesson . I just stuck that line because it sounds rather biblical and educatory at the same time. Also Sean Connery uses it in the Untouchables but that's beside the point.

I totally agree with you about ND schools . They have far too much to say about god and one particular branch of his minions .

As a staunch atheist I believe that there is no room for single religion education in our schools . There certainly is no valid reason why one sect should be treated any different from any other .

If religio is to be taught it should be every religion and it should be taught in high school where kids have the capacity to think for themselves and chose for themselves .

It certainly shouldn't be foisted on five year olds as part of a congregation conveyer belt .

So, to recap, in reference to RC school funding.

But, your tax dollar will continue to be used for indoctrination.

My kids were GENUINELY taught a kirk-approved Creationist back story in primary school.

I might be over-mentioning this but it still blows my ****ing mind - I didn't want to argue with them when they came home from school regurgitating bollocks - they should be encouraged to discover these things for themselves.

My advice to all fellow atheists having kids in the West of Scotland is, seriously, send your kids to a Catholic school because, out of the two options available, it's the most open and dogma-free education they'll receive.

 

It's been a wee while since I've been to school . I did bring three kids up thoughand two of them went onto university . So growing up without religion did their education no harm at all .

Still they have missed out on all those religious lessons that has turned you into such a well balanced reasonable chap.
