I think that over the next few weeks I expect a sea of change at the club ,older players will either be loaned out or sold and younger hungrier players will be brought in.I have advocated this for years. Now that we should take up the Revie plan and let younger hungrier players represent the club we have brought too many seasoned pros in who are only interested in getting a last pay day.So I expect BM to get rid of the dead wood and let them get a last hurrah at clubs run by lazy managers Anyone can say we want Messi Ronaldo Rooney but if you have only got 1m to spend then you have to shop at Aldi where if you are astute enough don,t show your hand you can get yourself a bargain .I think we have just got the bargain of the season with Matt SmithI suggested in January we buy him comparing him with Joe Jordan I got laughed at by a few posters .I even wrote to Warnock about him.i ALSO recommended Chris Taylor of Millwall who has not been snapped up by Blackburn.Neil bless him thanked me saying he had looked at Taylor several times but it was always wrong time wrong place he made no comment on Smith even though I suggested to him that we were not scoring enough goals at set pieces that this boy would cause havoc in the area .PersonallyI can,t wait to see this boy tear opposition apart they won,t know whats hit them I am going even further I will stick my fat neck out and say this boy will score at least 20 goals NEXT SEASON and play for Scotland you can all have a laugh on me I intend to find out if he wants to play for Scotland given the chance and am asking a friend in the media to ask him before I place my bet sO WELCOME TO THE REVOLUTION you heard it here first
Nice positive post. I would never have taken Matt Smith, based on seeing him in the cup games, but I think you may well turn out to be right (BM obviously does) In the Revie days we held onto good younger players, would be nice to see us start by keeping Byram. I think you are right, BM will not like any players with the wrong attitude. Hope he gets rid of a couple, a bad attitude is like a cancer in a team
Good post I'm really enjoying the majority of positivity on here recently. It makes a nice change from fans being at odds with each other over negative aspects of the club. The approach you mention with signing young hungry youth is spot on. I knew we wouldn't get it under Warnock, but I had hope the minute Brian walked through the doors that he would start to implement it, and to be honest, I'm quite surprised how quickly he has done so. We definitely need to move a couple of the older Warnock style players on and get the mentality back that you have to work to deserve to play in a Leeds shirt. The only old player I'd rule out from that is Brown. Generally I'm not his biggest fan, I certainly think he can do the job but think we need younger blood (with a bit less bloodshed sometimes!), but you cannot question his commitment to the team or the shirt. If we hold on to Byram through this summer then positivity is just going to skyrocket even further. One player doesn't make a team at all, but the contrast of intent from Brian and the board by holding onto a promising youngster after watching our stars leave over the last few seasons would be huge.
Optimism, positivity is brilliant especially from me who has been a 'dreary' for years because I hated Bates. Bates and Co have now gone and although we're still skint and don't have a team of world beaters, we have the next best thing. A manager who's committed, and squad wanting to give everything and some young kids getting a chance. BMD and the boys will do there best on the pitch, and I also expect GFH to be beavering away in the background to bring in some much needed cash. A tough season ahead, but I'm looking forward to it
I saw Joe Jordan make his debut back in the 70`s for us,Smith looks a similar player at this stage,we could have a gem on our hands MOT
Yeah great post and I agree holding on to Byram will really signal intent. Will be like a top signing. Wonder is Snoddy and the rest of the jump ship brigade having any regrets yet?
To be fair Snoddy and the jump ship brigade are good enough for Norwich but not good enough for where we want to be heading so balls to em
Good post, and I admit I was one of those underwhelmed by the Smith signing, but as always, when he pulls on the White shirt I will support him. Hopefully he makes a huge impact, we need it. Revie days were different. Players were roughly on same wages regardless of club, so players chose to play for clubs they really wanted to represent. There wasn't the issue of a big money offer to turn the head, unless it came from the likes of Juventus. Today it is very different thanks to Sky. FFS look at Southampton just having spent £12.5m on Wanyama from Celtic. Since when is he worth that fee? And Cardiff spending £8m on a 20 year old Danish striker. Just plain stupid!!
Good call Billy Duncan McKenzie could have gone anywhere as everyone wanted him, but he chose Leeds, as did Tony Currie. Jordan went to scumchester rovers for less pay than he was on at Leeds, and his boyfriend followed him a fortnight later for less wages. So although I loved big Joe and Gordon its obvious where they wanted to be .... Club owners in those days were all like manny Cousins, who payed base wages and made millions from gate reciepts, whereas nowadays gate reciepts dont cover wages in the prem.
I actually think Snoddy would be good enough for the next great Leeds team that is about to emerge ( ), at least as a squad player. The rest I agree would not be, Howson too many weaknesses, for example. Not sure Delph would be either. Buyram I think could be, which is why I want him kept. Meanwhile on planet Earth (aka mid table of the Championship).................
With regards to Smith I hope you are correct, but my best mate (for his sins) is an Oldham supporter, and the feeling round there was that he was lucky to get on the subs bench, never mind on the pitch. You do have to wonder why a team struggling in League 1, would only start him 14 times, and have him on the bench 26 times. Maybe their style of football didnt suit him, but they were prepared to use him as an impact player. Am more than happy for Oldham and my mate to be proved wrong tho
ASKI they will be I assure you I liken Smith to the young Australian Aston Agar didn,t show a lot at Henley on Thames playing in front of a man and dog but with 25+k shouting for you you will see the difference. The reason why Morison has gone is that he wouldn,t be able to move Smith believe me I ,d love to have a bet that he will get 20 goals this season you must get great odds 100-1and to play for Scotland another 100-1 probably LIW we take the bet because he won,t pay anyway!
Brilliant bit of business by BMD as he picks up Smith on a free and sells him after 2 friendly matches to Norwich for £3m
Serious question here, big nic bednter is a cart horse but worth a lot of cash. I reckon he could do a fantastic job at this level and get his confidence going again. If his deal with Fiorentina falls through he's surplus to requirements at arse? Whos going to spend big cash on him, he could go out on loan ...
Agree that he'd be good at this level, but his ego is far too big for him to lower himself to the Championship...
