Twitter is full of **** ups, some Saints fans are saying Wanyama doesn't look happy he is joining us. They believe this because Wanyama said he would miss Ledley! We have a few weirdos for fans.
Well it beats spending a lot of time being wrong Really though, I don't think that's what anyone was saying.
Nice thread you found there. Its not just that they are being complimentary about us - the comments being made seem intelligent and well considered!! (and its a football forum too??? ) I do hope this signing works out - have to say I am more than a little concerned about his agent - I can see problems in the future when he is (say) two years into his contract and has been doing well for us... I don't doubt his quality as a footballer and he will certainly stiffen the spine of the team; I am just a little concerned about influences around him. Hope I am wrong. One final thought - we now have three excellant midfielders - do you see us operating the three of them is some form of rotation or do you think that we might try to play all three in a different formation?
It was touched on a little in the melee of the Saint Victor thread but I think saints fans have to be pragmatic about players that we're trying to sign just as they have to be about joining us. The trouble is if we sign players who think playing for saints is the pinnacle of their careers then they're probably not good enough. The facts are if Wanayama wants to play for a top 4 club in this country then he will have to play very well for us. If in two years time the lure of champions league football is too much we'll cash in that £20m cheque and move on(though by this point I would have thought of him as a saints player who should remain loyal and will boo him when he comes back to St Mary's)
Wanyama comes over in the interview as nice lad, a bit on the quiet side. Obviously all his fire is on the pitch. He enjoyed his time at Celtic and made friends...of course he isn't going to slag them off. I would hope he would be as respectful about us when he moves on. He came over as certain that he would make friends with our players...probably someone who always makes friends. Unless we sign someone from obscurity, the days of them leaping up and down when they sign is over. Victor said that he had choices and he liked our ambition. Looking forward to the news from the preseason tour....I'm sure he will settle in well.
Everyone seems so have resigned themselves to Wanyama moving on within a few years. Honestly, with the potential of our squad, I don't think he'll need to move on. With the likes of Shaw, Clyne, Lovren, Yoshida, Schneiderlin, Cork, Ramirez, Rodriguez and Lallana all being 25 years or younger, I firmly believe we have the potential to match Wayama's ambitions.
Judging by the Official Facebook Page, it seems Saints may have picked up some new friends... please log in to view this image
Genuinely really happy about that. Noticed the same trend on Twitter as well. Can only be great for the profile of the club.
I went to Mombassa on a ship many years ago, and if I recall, Jambo is a general hello-type greeting there. So Jambo Victor !
Ha ha! That's awesome, from what I have seen on Twitter he seems to hold legendary status over there already.
Was there not talk from the club when Jaidi was appointed about tapping into East Africa? I don't think any big clubs have, from memory. Victor being from Kenya will certainly help raise our profile in that respect, if the plans to build an academy/facility out there are true.
Yeah, was it Les Reed who said that? Though it was never clear where exactly he meant. Setting up that academy thing in Tunisia suggests he actually meant North Africa.
