Johnson commits future to QPR after Exeter draw

Fri 12th Jul 2013 00:05 by Clive Whittingham

Andy Johnson returned to action for the first time in nearly a year in a 0-0 draw at Exeter this evening, and afterwards pledged to stay with the club amidst speculation he may be moving elsewhere.

Johnson missed almost the whole of last season after rupturing knee ligaments against Chelsea at Loftus Road in September. Now back fit, he played the second half of a dire pre-season friendly game at Exeter this evening and turned in a sharp performance – the only QPR player, in fact, to register a serious shot on target.

Johnson has been linked with a move back to his former club Crystal Palace but after the game told QPR Player: “I’ve had a good two weeks, I haven’t missed a session and I feel really sharp and fit. I’m a tiny bit behind the boys because they’ve played last season and I’ve been out for a long time – it will take time but it’s coming back. QPR stood by me last season and I will stand by them this season. I’m a loyal player, I worked hard last season and a lot of the staff here put in a lot of work to get me back fit. I feel like I owe the club helping them to get back into the Premier League.”

Good news. AJ's experience and work rate will be vital for us at this level this season.

ah FFS, I hate him and was hoping hed go before he gets injured again, it shouldnt be too hard to replace his 2 goals a season as long as we dont play that donkey Zamora.

Thanks for the loyalty but TBH I want him gone.

Fair play for his proffesionalism though !

I'm glad to hear this, provided he stays fit and can play a major part in the team. It's not necessarily the goals he gives, but the "unseen" work by making the runs to draw defenders out of place to give others more room in the attack, which you can not see in stats after the games.

Whilst I agree with all that you say Finn; the problem is that it leaves us 1 striker down and we still dont have anyone who can score those goals !!

that is one thing Harry will have to fix if Remy is going, get a poucher in/around the box. Don't see BZ doing the job, or Mackie.

he was in the stands waching the game, some reports that he'd have some minor injury.

One line from Clive's diary piece that had sipped passed me and will be of interest to Stan amongst others...

Taye Taiwo has joined Turkish side Bursaspor on a three year deal after a one year stay with Dynamo Kiev.

Andrew Johnson has the ability to terrorise the Championship. We're all aware of the previous fitness issues but football's about taking gambles and sticking by players on occasions. The man score's goals, and has done so wherever he's been. He's got 1 year left on his contract, he's not being paid astronomical wages, he's gradually building his sharpness and match fitness up, why would we get rid?

Furthermore he's got a point to prove, and I like that. A player who will work his socks off for the team. We could do with a few more with this kind of attitude.

He's going to be in the line up, so have to give him credit for stepping up and scotching press rumours.
Not sure how it will work out, but it has been said he is working very hard in training. If he feels he has something to prove, then I'm all for seeing him walk the talk!

I think a fit, motivated AJ will be an asset in the Champ, not too sure why some are so anti may not have the best goalscoring record but that's relative to where played, team playing for etc. Only thing is I don't see a need for both Mackie & AJ as similar in what likely to bring to the team.

He has to stay of course
Flyer don't care who hates him he can play and even last night looked fair
When and if he gets his game going then best we have him

Saying that I haven't been so worried about our team lads for many years

From what i remember he was playing well before he got injured....We need players who genuinely want to play for us...We got plenty who don't..

A fresh approach from a QPR player. Commitment is a word rarely associated around Loftus Road. Will his worth in the Championship.
