With regard to the debate about the relative quality of our players, Schmeichel is better than Stockdale, I'd have Chester over Morgan all day long(but that's personal choice, I just think he's a more gifted player) and you're underestimating Aluko(if he'd remained fit, I think we'd have won the league), but other than that, there's not that much in it.
Long term Chester is a better option then Morgan But the here and now Wes is better then Chester. Other then you lot no one has ever really mentioned Chester Aluko started well and then kept getting injured. I doubt he would have carried that form on all season. He could have easily done a Cameron Stewart As I said individually we have the better players but look at the galticos at Real Madrid. Having the best players doesnt mean you have the best team
Fair enough on your last point, but the point the other poster made about conceding goals isn't really valid. We had some fairly high scoring games this season and conceded a few, but we still won them. It was a lack of goals rather than a lack of defensiveness that kept our goal difference down. You could have been losing games 1-0 and yeah you weren't conceding loads of goals over the season, but there might have been mistakes/errors that led to those goals. I'm not saying Morgan isn't any good,(he clearly is); I just think that Chester is the better all round player in terms of passing, defensive quality and getting forward. I don't think there's been a moment in the last 3 seasons when he's received the ball and hasn't looked like he knows what to do next. To call me deluded isn't fair, I went to a fair few of Leicester City's games over the last 5 years (when I couldn't get to Hull City's games) and I saw enough of Morgan to know see that Chester was better. Think I saw around 20 odd games with Morgan playing and he does look very good, but he just doesn't come across like he has the quality that our Chezza does. As for Aluko, he had a little dip in form just before his injury, but the two might have been related (like Gedo did). Regardless, when he came back he was immense (until injury ruled him out again...) and he's first name on our team sheet.
This guy cant be real surely? Sheffield Wednesday are leading the chase for former Chelsea youngster Nortei Nortey.
Yes he is real, saw him come on for Chelsea in some youth cup game last season, couldn't believe my ears when I heard "naughty naughty" was coming on!
Austin failing his medical has not come as a complete surprise to the Burnley fans... http://boards.footymad.net/forum.php?tno=104&fid=297&sty=2&act=1&mid=2112517294
Not sure what this means for the lad etc but two of the best players I've ever seen with us in over 40 years supporting the club arrived due to having failed medicals with, coincidentally, Liverpool - Frank Worthington and Neil Lennon.
I think there's a chance we'll just bid again at a lesser amount to reduce the risk, but we're not going to get ourselves into another Bullard situation.
There was rumours that Norwich wanted Kasper Schmeichel to replace John Ruddy who Chelsea kept bidding for if he signed for them Well Chelsea have just signed Mark Schwarzer so that rumour can be put to bed
Bruce will now either have to over pay for someone like Jordan Rhodes or Gary Hooper or you need to hope his scouting is as good as Steve Walsh's
I think it's fairly obvious that we're not going to overpay for anyone. There are still plenty of options and five weeks to go, I suspect we'll bring in three strikers before the window closes, two permanent and one loan.
I agree I think a team like Hull should push the boat out a bit to bring in a quality striker. They struggled in the champ to find a reliable goalscorer and they are gonna struggle more, why not pay a bit more for someone like Hooper. It gives fans and players more confidence in the club as well as bringing in someone who has some quality about them. I can't understand this approach that Hull are taking with their pursuit of a striker, I think they need someone at least semi-proven and therefore I don't think going abroad and finding a relative unknown would be the most sensible option. Out of interest, why did Austin fail his medical?
None of Hull's player a reliable goalscorers in the championship and unless this get addressed properly they will get relegated for the same problem they have had for a number of years. They cant score enough goals. Their solid defence (Built by NP) bailed them out in the championship but it wont in the prem
