The real risky deal today is Bony to Swansea. They've signed a lot of players this summer, i think Bony is a very big risk though. Signing big scoring players from Holland can go 2 ways. You either end up with someone like Suarez, who'll deliver, or Afonso Alves who flopped massively for Middlesbrough.
I've always felt that Wanyama was one of these players who was hyped up by a lot of people that probably never saw him play a league game for Celtic. As you say, he had one wonderful game and his stock rose but as we should all know it's a very rare footballer indeed who can be judged on the merit of one match (hence player scouting usually being a long, drawn out affair). I know Celtic season ticket holders who didn't even see him as the best midfielder at the club,
I'm surprised we weren't linked. We've been linked with every other striker in europe, but not him. I feel sorry for Swansea, he's got dud written all over him. Then again, we paid 12 million for Giroud, so we can hardly talk.
Don't really want to get into a debate with you about Giroud, suffice to say that he had a decent enough first season.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markus_Liebherr Wanyama is on £30k/week reportedly. We have spent big fees on young players but wages are pretty low.
Also, i'm surprised we haven't been linked with Flamini, seeing as he's available and we badly need a DM.
Saying Wenger is too soft when it comes to sales is harsh when you consider the ridiculous amounts he got for Anelka, Overmars, Toure, Nasri, Adebayor and Bentley. The Cesc deal was pretty hefty (£35m plus 50% sell on fee is massive) and the Van Persie deal was lower because: a) he only had a year left; b) he was 29; c) he wanted to leave.
Luis Suarez scored 11 goals in his first full Premier League season, and a year later is supposedly worth £40m despite racially abusing and attempting to devour other players
I thought we had been linked with Flamini. I'd definitely take him back even just for that tackle he made on Corluka a couple of seasons ago
As if Wanyama wasn't enough, Southampton fans now want Leandro Damiao. Spurs will love that, how long have they been trying to sign this guy?
The PL is going to be very strong this year, with all the extra TV money a lot of mid table clubs are going to strengthen. When you consider that last season's top 3 all have new managers then the points tally required to win the PL could be in the low 80s.
Really any of the Top 4 (granted we need to sign some players but I'm not sweating yet) can win it if hey play to their full potential. For us we need to improve and not do those silly ****ing mistakes in defense that screwed us over at the beginning of the season.
I would like to see us become resistant to our mistakes. I think all teams make mistakes, but at the start of the season we seemed to get punished for them. I think we did better at the end because we didn't push so hard and left an extra person back "just in case". Hopefully that was a lesson learned.
I find it funny when some say Jack should take Ramsey's position. His inclusion as a pivot last season was key to that unbeaten run at the end of the season.
