Following a discussion on the Ipswich board a few days ago I would like you guys to come up with as many players from between 1970 to the present day who have been awarded FULL international caps (while playing for your team). Not u18, u21 etc - Any country.

I do not intend to turn this into a discussion type of thread or any kind of competition between our 2 clubs - just for interest, and maybe some surprises along the way as we go down memory lane.

If you can give me the name, country and approx year (in that order)

This list is incomplete, but this is the best I can gather on players who've played for their country while at Stoke:

    Sambegou Bangoura - Guinea - 2006
    Gordon Banks -England - 1967-1972
Asmir Begovic - Bosnia and Herzegovina - 2010
    George Berry - Wales - 1982-1983
    Mark Chamberlain - England - 1982-1984
Clive Clarke - Republic of Ireland - 2004
    Danny Collins - Wales - 2010
Terry Conroy - Republic of Ireland - 1970-1976
    Rikhardur Dadason - Iceland - 2000-2002
    Salif Diao - Senegal - 2007-
    Abdoulaye Faye - Senegal - 2008-2011
    Ricardo Fuller - Jamaica - 2006-
    Bjarni Gudjonsson - Iceland - 2000-2003
    Brynjar Gunnarsson - Iceland - 1999-2003
    Carl Hoefkens - Belgium - 2005-2007
    Alan Hudson - England - 1975
    Kenwyne Jones - Trinidad & Tobago - 2011
Graham Kavanagh - Republic of Ireland - 1998-2001
Liam Lawrence - Republic of Ireland - 2009-2010
    Sammy McIlroy - Northern Ireland - 1982
    John Mahoney - Wales - 1970-1977
    Gerry McMahon - Northern Ireland - 1996-1997
    Toddy Orlygsson - Iceland - 1993-1995
    Paul Peschisolido - Canada - 1994-1996
    Mike Pejic - England - 1974
    Tuncay Sanli - Turkey - 2009-2010
    Peter Shilton - England - 1974-1977
    Sergei Shtaniuk - Belarus - 2001-2003
    Mamady Sidibe - Mali - 2005-
    Larus Sigurdsson - Iceland - 1995-1999
    Thomas Sorensen - Denmark - 2008 -
    Mickey Thomas - Wales - 1982-1984
    Stefan Thordarson - Iceland - 2000-2002
    Adam Vass - Hungary - 2006-2007
    Jani Viander - Finland - 2002-2003
Jon Walters - Republic of Ireland - 2010
Marc Wilson - Republic of Ireland - 2011
Glenn Whelan - Republic of Ireland - 2008-

There were a few, namely Kyle Lightbourne (Bermuda), Petur Marteinsson (Iceland), Brendan O'Callaghan (Republic of Ireland), Martin Paterson (Northern Ireland), Demar Phillips (Jamaica) and Hannes Sigurdsson (Iceland) that could have played Internationally while with us but it is not entirely clear that they did.

Nice one and to be honest it's a longer list than I expected to see (no offence meant). A bit like Southampton

Did he? I must admit I cannot remember Gerry playing for them when he was with us. I'll see if I can find out.

EDIT - Just checked. Gerry played his last game for Northern Ireland in 2002, a year or so before he came to us.

My apologies Conroy, didn't realise. 4 caps in 1974 and apparently dropped from the England squad "didn't smile enough".
