Haven't seen too much of him but he's a natural goalscorer - a proper CF. Not versatile so I'm quite surprised we would be in for him but he's a complete CF in that he's clinical, powerful, strong, good header of the ball etc. He's 27 so he's in (or entering) his peak and has played at a high level in Turkey (crazy fans and big expectations) and has performed well in the Champions League.
Ha- more like Alan Shearer etc. Knows where the goal is, gets into the right positions. Can finish accurately but can also put his laces through it. Scores all types of goals really.
From what I have seen of him, he strikes me as a typical CF. However, I don't watch him extensively so he may have more strings to his bow.
Are people in here satisfied with Gerrard and Lucas being our startes next season, or do you'll think we could improve on the duo. Gerrard isn't getting any younger and i don't think he's got a another full season left in him. Lucas has not been at his best for sometime now and I actually think a DM should be a priority this summer. Bringing in too many players in one window can be a bit of problem, but it would be worse if we miss out another year of CL football. Especially if we are to retain out best players and also attract top talent. I think we should go all out this summer. We need to look at a player who could fill in for both Lucas and Gerrard, and the only viable option i could think of is Strootman. Rumors are rife that he's close to a move to Roma. Would be a shame if we miss out on him. We were linked to him at some point and i think he'd be a massive improvement. He was outstanding in Euro 21. He's also got that insatiable hunger for winning, the sort of attitude BR craves for.
I think they are good enough (when playing well) but I'm not happy that they don't have serious competition for their places. Gerrard just had his best season for three or four years and Lucas is still trying to regain his form prior to two serious injuries. IMO, and I've said it all summer, we need a DM. Beyond Lucas, no one else can play there. So, in short, yes, I'm happy with them two as part of the first team but its not about the first team, its a squad game.
I've not been happy with our centre midfield since Alonso and Mascherano left as it lost balance and dynamism. Would love Strootman but as you say, he looks Roma bound. Apparently we're after Jorginho who is in the Allen mould - clever playmaker and retains possession. Also, Biteco (another Brazillian youngster) who plays as DM who has a great engine. I would love a like-for-like replacement for Alonso - someone with a great range of passing and vision.
Banega!!! Agree with you on our midfield. Just doesn't like right and the balance is really hard to get with our current squad.
If Lucas could find his form of two years ago then I can see the balance but without that form, there is no balance. Hence me saying we need a DM.
Not just balance with Lucas but that competition and depth. Think we could do with a proper playmaker even though I know Gerrard will sit deep and either Hendo/Coutinho/LA in front of them.
