One of the most difficult things about fasting must be when you come in to work and some muppet (me) is waving around cookies asking if you want one. <whistle>

Must be ****ing seriously dangerous to do pre-season training and not replace fluids? The frigging brain would swell, for one, and the heart, even for a top athlete, can go into arrest. Surely they make exceptions for athletes in training? And what about Saladin and those battles with Richard? It would be incredible, and downright foolish, to go into battle under Middle eastern suns and not replace fluids.

All that said, as a lapsed CofE I still avoid meat on Fridays if I can, mostly so that I get regular fish in my diet (baked halibut being my favourite, though cod and chips from the chippy is more than acceptable). But if I do 5-10k at gym on the treadmill I drink about 4 litres of water, and a lot more if I go into the sauna afterwards. True though, now that it's been mentioned, there's a few Muslim lads at my gym but we haven't seen them for a few days. Dunno if that's a connection.

I'm not a religious type, but have to respect his devotion. I know a lot of Muslim lads that just don't take it serious at all. He actually sounds like a good chap,
nothing wrong with having a bit of faith i guess.

Ever tried taking food out of a dog's bowl once he's started eating? The way they don't even look at you, just growl menacingly! That's pretty much me, don't come between me & my food! Grrrrrrrr!

Surely the lack of water intake makes training hard impossible?

He surely has to 'cheat' with the old H2O?

  8. Poorly owned or wild dogs maybe, my dog would sit back because he knows who is the boss <ok>

However, put your hand between me and my food and you are likely to lose it <laugh>

I was thinking this. Surely it's dangerous to go 14 hours without liquid if you're exerting yourself?

  10. I always thought fasting meant they were only allowed to eat and drink certain things? Pretty sure they're allowed water!

  11. He's obviously not shy of using an obscure excuse Since he blamed his mrs for the failed drugs test, maybe he should say he's pregnant or breast feeding <laugh>

Played with some Ethiopian lads during College and after and they had to deal with this **** during pre-season, games, etc in the Tennessee heat ( which could get to 100 easy). Nightfall comes and they are killing the food!

Another devotion thing is they have to pray at certain times. Almost missed our flight to Florida ( whole team) due to them praying and not getting up. Had to eventually get them to hold off a few more minutes whilst also trying to get them to hurry the **** up!

Top lads though, really good people. But Ramadan for an athlete is brutal.

When you are fasting you are not allowed to eat or drink. You have heavy breakfast between 4 am and 6 am, and break around 5 pm.<ok>

Sunrise is about 5am and set at about 9.30pm at the moment, that's a long time without food or water.
