Basically because they don't have much of a brain, therefore they get no complications. I believe there are no cases of mental health issues in Lanarkshire apparently. Funny that eh?
I'm not depressed - I'm just acutely aware that life is absolutely pointless. For some reason exercise seems to help though - lying on the sofa and watching tv are much more enjoyable when you are really tired. Also have kids - nothing genuinely makes me happier these days than spending time with the weans.
Bealey - this is some of what I used to do for a living. The sensible advice you've been given is mostly right. The only thing I `d add is that its important to see someone who doesn't have just one view of what depression is, what causes it and how to treat it - and there are a lot of them around - you`ll be on the right track if you can find someone who can offer medication if its needed and regularly tests for its benefits and side-effects while also working on the patterns of thinking that underpin the depressive feelings. Be prepared for the long haul and expect the same of your worker/therapist/doctor. As with ER feel free to pm me if you want anymore suggestions....you`re in Glasgow, is that right ?
